That review made me think Classics Silverbolt is a lot more cooler then I first thought.
I like Silverbolt's(the reviewer) review style, even if I wish he'd talk about the actual toys more.

You might want to give some credit to the actual reviewer, rather than just posting the video.

Awesome. I actually like the "jet on his back" look. Just like Generation 1. Only much sharper.
I prefer the original toy's transformation over this one. it was a bit more involved, and didnt look that much like a robot scrunched up underneath thanks to the way the legs stored in the body. the wings sweeping back on the original figure made him less bulky and helped hide the "my alt mode is my backpack" design.

I'm not a fan of how thin the plastic is around the legs (or at least how thin he seemed to indicate that it was), but the toy in general has grown on me.
My favorite part of this, is that after all the people freaking out about Pascal posting his transformation video first, Silverbolt neither shows animosity towards him nor ignores him, but rather recommends his transformation video.
Good review, I really liked how he added some character background in there. It may have been a tad long, but still good. Plus, he was under pressure to get it out quickly :D

WOOT! I got a news credit!
And Draven, I don't think Dyansis is on this board. I usually hang around Dyansis' page on YouTube, and he never mentioned being a part of TFW. I don't take credit for this vid, only reporting it. :)
Anyway, Silverbolt really does look nice and awesome. Very G1. I will be picking him up first time I see him. He has a very cool look. Now if only they would release the other Superion parts and he could combine with him...:(

I know Dyansis was very enthused to do this review so I'm quite glad it's finally up. Having it as front page news also gives a further look into the video review community besides the usual suspects, so that's cool.

Yep, very good of him. I hope it makes some of those that went on the attack over that video see it's not always necessary to enter Butthurt Land.

I think what he means is that the news post shows a video, and the top post in this thread has a link, but neither has any mention of who did the video. Even if the "credit" goes to you for posting it, there should be some mention of Dyansis in the news post. I don't know that it's your fault, but someone should add that somewhere.

At first, I was kinda taken aback by how geeky the guy sounded... until i realized that that's EXACTLY what I sound like when talking about my toys to my girlfriend... who very patiently listens to me. :) Well, usually, anyway. Anyway, once I got past that, I found it pretty amusing, and he made the toy look good... of course, he'd just end up sitting on my shelf, not played with, because he's so simple. Pity. :( Well, I'll try and pick him up to support the line at least.

And yet, anyone who likes, buys, writes and/or records a review of a Transformers who is over the age of 15 isn't "geeky"? Far be it for a person to be enthusiastic of something. Yeah, the monotone voiced reviews are far more interesting...to each their own I suppose. Peaugh does do good reviews, but Dyansis rules when it comes to details and character backgrounds. Each person has something good to offer.
Dyansis finally got his Silverbolt. Thank you TFW2005 for crediting him for the review. He's a walking, living, breathing encyclopedia when it comes to Transformers, and quite fun to watch IMO. But, that's just my opinion.

I know it probably isn't likely to happen, but I think it would be incredibly awesome for them to release the other Ariel Bots in further installments of the classic series. A huge Superion is something I've always wanted. It would be the greatest combiner hasbro has ever delivered. I may be too optimistic in my theory..but I don't know why they'd release to leader of the Arielbots if this wasn't an idea they had brewing.
On a different note, even though Powerglide looks like an awesome figure...I think they should have made him a tad smaller, instead of making him a A-10 Warthog. Also, I love classics Skyfire...but he should have been a bit bigger in my opinion. Just look at the old cartoons, he towered over Prime and just about every other autobot with the exception of metroplex and the combiners.

Yeah, well, sorry to ruffle feathers with my opinion. I just can't believe that a video review which is over 14 minutes long takes almost 8 minutes to even get to the transform & review portion, and when it does finally happen, it's barely 2 minutes long.
Fair enough if people like this guy's reviews because they're each a Character 101 history class combined with someone evidentially treating YouTube like his own talk show... I just happen to prefer reviews where they get to the point, show relevant comparisons, and the reviewers themselves stay behind the camera instead of being front & center like some sort of host.
No offence to him as a person. But as a video reviewer, it's just far, far too out there for me.

(The one for people who don't like video reviews is that little 'x' on your window that closes the tab YouTube is open on. ;) )
Nice to see he's got the review up after all the gonads and strife. Though the toy really is one that is neither photogenic nor videogenic, IMO. Looked much better the two times I saw it in person than in any review thus far.

Great review. Dyansis is the only Youtube TF reviewer that I watch regularly. I have been subscribed to him for about a year and always enjoy his stuff....yeah, he is a little long winded at times and he has some of the screwiest facial expressions (by his own admission), but his passion for his hobby comes through in every video. He may not always be the first to review something, but he is one of the best, IMO. He is all class.
The toy itself.......meh.

Nice try. I didn't call anyone a geek, nor would I ever do so on a board that I'm subscribed to that's based on toys. I said this was a level of geek that I think is just way too much. BIG difference. :rolleyes2

So there it is.
Dyansis did a great job on the review as always. I've always liked his style of review, that he goes in depth on the character, shows the toy, gives some thoughts on it, but doesn't go needlessly into trivial things (not that go into detail about the figure is bad, as I watch reviewers that do that as well and they do a solid job of it). Have been subscribed to him for at least a year now, probably a decent time more, a lot of respect for him and his work. But I digress.
I think the figure itself LOOKS good in both modes, very very G1. The transformation is a bit simple, but after falling in love with the Animated line, it really isn't a big deal.

More people have given praise here than not, so no sweat man. Silverbolt is just as likely to get those odds on his video's comments section, all us video guys are and you should know that all too well. We'll never make everyone happy because A or B style video review is simply not for everyone. By default, there's always gonna be someone not into it, and that's ok. Silverbolt has had a lot of success and he's still getting pretty positive remarks here. Don't focus just on the negative, let it slide man.
He knows this is at TFW. If he wants to sign up and defend himself he will. Remember with all the uproar over Pascal's video, Silverbolt ultimately didn't even mind. Let him decide how he'll take his criticism.

Personally speaking, I really enjoy the kind of "Review as Entertainment" style that Dyansis has. It's same approach that makes Vangelus' reviews so enjoyable. Both these guys try to give you a bit more than a "this bit is painted white, this bit is painted red" list of details. They give you some history, they make you giggle, they sometimes go off on tangents or rants, but I find that entertaining. It feels like you're sitting in the pub, having a beer with them and talking transformers.
BTW: Nothing WRONG with the "list of details" style review, I just prefer the other. Each to their own n' all dat jazz...

Didn't miss the post, but I just do not see the difference. Say geek, or level of geek, I just felt it is a comment that is a bit out of place on a toy board Hey, like you say about the reviewer....not judging you personally. My point is we all could be considered geeks here and the matter of "level" of geekdom really has no bearing.
You offered an opinion and so did I. It's a right we all share. This isn't a matter of right or wrong...

Interesting review. Certainly different from any others I've seen recently. Maybe more reviewers should partner up and have one do the in-depth stuff with details and the other do a basic review of the transformation and gimmicks. Then they could be posted in the same thread and everyone could take their pick on which video they want to watch.
Oh, and when did geek become a bad word again?

07-18-2008, 10:30 AM
Geek should never be a bad word. Tho personally, I prefer nerd to geek. I think of nerd as the friendly fiction obsessed connoisseur, while a geek is the kind of person who is more extreme in their liking, and tend to be a little TOO into their fandom (an example would be people who like to refer to World of Warcraft in any life situation). Now, I personally think that nerds and geeks are nothing bad, its just the two words are meant to measure the extremism of each personality. Plus you can have geeks that aren't THAT bad (comparing to my example), while there can be fairly geeky nerds.
But otherwise Geek should not be a bad word.

To me "nerd" means someone who is pretty intelligent when it comes to s subject. While a geek is devoted to a subjected, and doesn't really care what others think of his/her devotion.

Well said!! Nerd, geek, dork......you can use them all as a term of endearment as far as I am concerned! But when coupled with words like obnoxious, it can be taken in a completely different light. At the end of the day, you have a group of people...many of which are grown men and women, that I think would call themselves at least one of the terms above (in my case I wear all three like merit badges).

Yeah, whenever I watch a review with a hidden reviewer, I feel like the guy is too embarrassed about his hobby to be on camera. Though I know that's not the case most of the time (as the reviewers I thought this about would appear on camera from time to time, just not in every vid), but just the way it comes off to me. I've definitely seen good reviews both ways, though.

Classics Silverbolt looks very nice and as I've said before the simple transformation is a breath of fresh air imo...props to Hasbro for the G1 look and he will definitely be a purchase for me...

i hate to say this...but some of you people are sounding like the people over on allspark...and that's why i left that site....
and i'm especially impressed with how people claim certain acts where "immature" yet sitting here...insulting someone's review who isn't even on this site...nor posted it here or anything...is able to defend themselves, is apparently a mature act...
I agree. Though these are probably the same guys who talk crap behind closed doors.

If I don't like a reviewer, I just don't watch, and move on. I don't make jokes about the reviewer or call him names and such.
Why do you guys have to bash this guy so much? He is simply excited over this figure, and being able to review it. He is just a fan excited about something, were all big fans here. I'm sure if any of you had a name of a figure from G1, and that figure got a kick ass update, AND you got it early. I'm sure you would be pretty excited too. Just leave the guy alone, he is just reviewing this figure. Sure the video is long, but he goes over the character. And with the knoledge he has on the subject he talks for a while about it. At least it is something other than the regular "This is the figure -transforms figure- this is the other mode -insert opinion here-" kind of review.

I find it curious, Sportimus, that you showed up here and on Cybertron.ca almost the instant all this Silverbolt review nonsense hit the fan and that it's these threads that you're the most active in. Not only have you been somewhat of herald speaking on Dyansis's behalf, but you seem to know an AWFUL lot about his every move on other forums, on YouTube, his intentions, what he is or isn't thinking, etc. as well as seem to be taking a lot of people's criticisms of his review style quite personally. I find it equally improbable that while Dyansis is tapped in enough to make his own YouTube "show" about Transformers, that he wouldn't also be paying attention to these TFW forums and have something to say in response to the Silverbolt review drama - in the exact way you're currently doing.
You see where I'm going with this? I don't think anyone here will fault you for just coming out and saying that you're Dyansis. It would likely get you more praise, accolades & respect than hiding behind this Sportimus alias but constantly speaking "for" Dyansis in an increasingly obvious attempt to look like just a new member that happens to be so passionate about this certain topic and a YT reviewer you just happened to be so in tune with.
Don't take any of the crticisms too personally. I know my initial reactions to your review style got the defenses up, but it's nothing against you personally... as I already explained and won't go into again. I mean, I don't particularly like Sean Long's reviews either, but I think he's kind of a cool guy on these boards and never deserved a lot of the personal attacks he also used to receive when more people became aware of him. You just need to realize that once you put yourself out there like that for the entire world to see, people (who don't know you personally) are going to have good AND bad things to say in response. It unfortunately comes with the territory. Just block it out, move on, and keep doing what you're doing regardless if some of us don't like how it's done based on what we've seen. And in that regard, most of us who don't like your reviews won't continue to watch more, so there's little chance to see these reactions repeated each time you do it. That ground has now been covered, so it's probably smoother sailing from here on out. I would hope so anyway. :)

Let me make myself perfectly clear. I'm not Dyansis. I do my own reviews on YouTube, and you can look it up if you don't believe me. Sorry to blow your little theory clear out of the water.
I put myself out on this board because Dyansis seemed like he could use a voice here. He was accused of bullying others on youtube, ordering everyong not to review Silverbolt when it simply was not the case. he was also accused of sending out his "lackeys" to pick on PascTF, which was also not the case. He and I both hang out at another board, and have even spoken to one another briefly on the phone. He isn't a super close friend, as I barely know the guy. However, I know him well enough to say he is NOT the villain he has been portrayed to be on this board. I felt obligated upon my own good conscious to try to set the record straight. I have a real problem when a person is thrown under a bus unjustly by people who don't know jack-sh** of him. If anyone has a problem with that, I really don't care.

Prior to this I don't ever remember seeing any kind of disdain for any reviewers. There was nothing wrong with Dynasis asking to do the review first. The problem was the backlash from some of his supporters after pasc posted his. Unfortunately, I think the way those specific few went about it turned some people against him even though he wasn't the one doing it. I guess it never occurred to them that someone may not have had any idea who simon is. I didn't really know who he was until this blew up. Heck of a way to be introduced to someone eh? It's a sucky situation but it will blow over.

Seriously Draven, it makes me sad that this has ruined video reviews for you. And for that, I don't blame you. I just am sorry that people have to be so hateful. I've thought about doing video reviews (not sure my laptops built in cam is good enough though), but now I really question that myself. Maybe I should start doing video reviews of board members.

Every day I manage to feel a little more embarrassed to be a video reviewer thanks to how seriously and angrily people take what should be the most stupidly fun and carefree part of this fandom (talking about toys on camera).
Me too man and I feel I can't even say what I want in fear of friends from the 'video community' feeling betrayed or whatever and jumping down my throat for not rabidly rallying against anyone that dares decide they don't like video reviews or a specific reviewer. That's a tough spot to be in. But seriously, everyone has the damn right to not dig something and it doesn't require giant defensive essays or the whole WELL ALL THOSE WEBSITES ARE JUST FULL OF HATORZzz type shit. They're videos about toys! I don't see why it's such a touchy subject. I can understand being defensive on a base level about something you care about but it gets dragged out too far I think. One, two, three negative comments will get focused on even if there's a ton of positive ones.
Sportimus - I again have to say that Silverbolt/Dyansis is free to join this website if he wants to. I think it's actually in his best interest to let him speak for himself. I appreciate you sticking up for someone you admire and all that but it's just keeping the fire going. So some people don't like what he does? It doesn't matter. Like I said before, he ended up not caring at all about the Pascal Silverbolt video after people went out of their way to defend him, which started a lot of this crap in the first place. Let the dude fight his own battles, because he might not feel it necessary in the first place.
And it's a little silly to let some people not liking video reviews make you feel this website as a whole is no good or whatever. I love this site and this board and I'd hate to see anyone be driven from it for the wrong reasons.
I think the key to all this is looking at things from different points of view and understanding how this or that person might not necessarily agree with you, what you're doing, what you're saying, what you're defending, etc. Sometimes it just doesn't matter

For example, I like Vangelus' reviews. Now how would I look if I went around saying "ZOMG HE IS BETTER THAN JOO CUZ HE DOESN'T AFRAID OF ANYTHING!!!1!1!one!"? If you don't like the reviewer, fine, but keep the personal insults to yourself. Yea we may not be Dyansis, but most of us won't just sit around if someone gets insulted for no reason. I mean really, if you don't like the review OR the reviewer, is it that hard to just close and ignore it?
Just look at this. Is this necessary?
