who is your favorite non-show character and why?
mine are no brainers
1. Ricochet:he was my first g1 figure (reissue) and i spent days after getting him in awe over the figure and his bio...seriously...the bio for this guy sold him for me..i just love it...he is the transformer version of me...easily gets mad if agitated
2.bw buzzsaw:i remember as a kid that every time i went to the store i BEGGED for him....why??? i don't know, but there just was something about him that cried MUST HAVE NOW!!!!!!!!!! . i remember being VERY sad when i almost got him, but cause the wal-mart had the stickers incorrect i ended up with rattrap as my first figure...but i eventually got my buzzsaw a few weeks later for my birhday and the rest is history :D
i REALLY miss him....but someday i shall be reunited with my lost childhood friend and i can't wait for that day to be reunited with the bug that started it all for me.....
yes i do have the cybertron buzzsaw made as a homage to my old pal, and the second i saw it i bought that sucker and it was my childhood all over again...well my younger part of my childhood

Optimus Prime (all eras): He's the leader of the Autobots, he kicks ass and has a big ass plaster. Need to say more?
Cybertron Starscream: Loved him in G1, Cybertron, and Animated. IBut I loved him most in Cybertron, second going to Animated. He's always been the cool sneaky traitor of the Decepticons. Though screamer has a huge fanbase full of fangirls.
BW Optimus Primal: He's the kinda guy who thinks logically before going out in the battlefield. I had some real respect for this character, and I really loved him. It was sad seeing him die in Beast Machines, even though he became a bit fanatical. I hope, ony day... they consider reviving Primal.
Edit: Wait, is this about the figures or the characters from the TV shows?

BIG DADDY, Cryotek. Was Energon Dreadwing in the show?
Also, is this referring only to characters that weren't in TV, or characters that weren't in any media? Cos Bludgeon and Thunderwing weren't on the show, but their characters did A LOT in the comics. Ricochet, on the other hand, was only ever used in a single manga chapter. I also like Ricochet and Decepticharge, because they're like blank slates for Alternators Character Development.

Beast Wars TM2 Scourge is awesome. A sadistic biochemical warfare specialist that looks like a freakin' ninja. So cool.

G2 Obliterator Pyro (I know he's technically G1 or G1,5, but from the treatment he gets, he's G2 XD)
He's a cool big bot who transforms from rather boxy an firetruck to a tall and impressive looking robot, and the transformation's awesome too.

Pretty much all of my Movie toys are non-movie characters (such as Arcee, Landmine, Stockade, Wreckage, Dropkick...) and I got them precisely for that reason. I love the "blank-slate" non-show characters present. But of them all, Movie Longarm takes the cake (and eats it).
Somehow Hasbro managed to take one of the most unassuming altmodes ever and turn it into a toy that is just awesome and oozes character. He has one of the most unique weapons of all TF's, and he can wield it two-handed against his shoulder like a real soldier would, reminding me of the support class in Battlefield 2.
He's also one of the few, if not the only, working Transformers tow trucks.
What's more, his "Good Samaritan" bio is strangely at odds with his fierce appearance. He looks like he could take you apart but his tech specs say he won't, making me imagine him as sort of a gentle giant type, kind of like a precursor to Bulkhead. And his proportions reflect this: just by glancing at him you can tell he's meant to be a physically strong character.
I imagine him as a sort of combat engineer, going around tearing down enemy fortifications, mining the battlefield, and patching up his teammates until they can be handed off to Ratchet. I like him precisely because he's not one of the warriors hogging the spotlight in the films and most series, yet he's just as essential to the fight and just as close to the front lines.

When I was a kid, my favourite non-show (and non-toy as well) character was Impactor. I liked how he was a zombie later on as well.

I always thought Straxus was a cool ruthless Decepticon leader-type dude. Too bad they never made an official toy of him.
I read that story-arc when it first came out back in the day and its still my favorite arc from the comic book run.

Cryotek, Monstructor, the Fallen.
And G1 Galvatron (hey he was non-show in Armada :p)

Cyb Cannonball and BWN Black Big Convoy of course.

Ain't that the truth. :)
I haven't watched many of the shows apart from BWs and G1 and now Animated. So I wouldn't be sure who is non-show from the lines. For me, my favourite BWs non-show character is Nightgilder. He was my first BWs toy and forced me to relent my dislike for BWs and try the show. I haven't looked back since. :D
Twin Twist.
Just kidding. :lol I'd have to say my favorite non-show character would be Beast Wars Cybershark. He looks like he could have fit in with the Maximals so perfectly.

Heh, um, what's wrong with Twin Twist? I was seriously about to post him as my favorite! Really! I think a lot of it is nostalgia. I remember exactly when and where my parents got him for me (got him with Sludge) and I have a soft spot for him. Nothing wrong with the Jumpstarters.
I also have to mention Overdrive, one of the mail-away Omnibots. I played with him endlessly. The Omnibots were very well done for mail-away exclusives.

Universe scavenger, I'm convinced that this blue excavation vehicon repaint.
with its gold claws and autobot symbol is a homage to beachcomber.
awesome.
also cybertron dark skorponok. If any repaint villain seemed like a satisfying threat to the autobots. It was this guy. dude has the only beast key in my collection. (also no gold plastic problems the original black zarek toy suffered from)

And G1 Galvatron (hey he was non-show in Armada :p)
Well think of it this way; the Galvatron in the show had a different color and shape than the toy, and the toy's tech spec didn't describe him as an upgraded Megatron or a Decepticon Leader. Maybe he is a non-show character :lol

Beast Wars: Cybershark (Unless you count the coined name for Depth Charge's gun)
Cybertron: Excellion

These two were my choices also, Impactor was a great character we didn't see enough of (did we ever see his alt mode? I'll need to re-read those, it's only a few months since I last read them all though!)
Even as a child I wanted a Lord Straxus, as a Megs fan, Straxus has always been a must. I reconciled a long time ago we'll never get one, but he's still a perpetual favourite.
EDIT: Typing M-e-g-s now results in Megatron :( I like refering to him as M-e-g-s

I would like to know if you're including all media beside tech specs or just TV shows.
Anways the first guy that comes to mind is Movie Real gear High Score 100.
He learned to be the ultimate fighter from video games, what's not awesome about that?
Tigertrack (I liked Sunstreaker's colours more, yet I liked Sideswipe's robot mode more) and Acidstorm (I always wanted to see a green Seeker).
Acidstorm was in G1, although he didn't have any lines (that I remember). He was one of the rainmakers.

^This. Longarm is simply a brilliant toy and a brilliant character.
By the way, your description of him wielding his weapon intrigues me, but I can't for the life of me figure out how you're supposed to do it. Any chance of you sending me a picture in a PM?
Getting back on topic, some other favourite non-show characters of mine:
G1 Skram: the first TF I purchased. Kind of makes me biased towards him, but that's not going to stop me from loving him. That said, he is actually a surprisingly good toy for the time, size and price point.
BW Razorbeast: there's just something about him that makes him look like he can kick butt. Back in the day, I was also a fan of the simplistic BW transformation scheme for basics. Sadly, I've long since lost this toy.
Movie Wreckage: nothing like getting up close and personal.

I seem to recall a picture of Impactor's alt mode being in one of those small cardboard wraparound booklets on one of the anniversary issues, 250 or 300 or something like that?
Or maybe it was Xaaron and I'm getting confused...
