As a Fantabulous birthday treat to myself, I present you all with The OOO. I don't care about trying to get the effects fancy, as long as the funny is there. Old school. *pleads with the heavens that the funny is there!*

I've been waiting for you to get started on these! Glad you decided to go with Beachcomber, SO much awkward comedy gold with him! Thanks for the nod too :D You'd better update often!

Otispq

Well I don't know about how often I can update, since I don't have any plans on doing anything long running, so I just gotta think of funny stuff, but I do have the rest of BC's chair dilemma shot, just gotta dialogue it.

Glad you liked it, since I sure love your strips!

Nope, not your G1 BC here, but I do have a soft spot for my little beaten up G1 toy of him, and wanted to use him, so I upgraded to this one for convenience sake.

Brilliant! A pink highchair! I wish I had one so I could humiliate Megs!

I only have a son, but my older sister gave me a ton of generic kiddy toys a while back, so I'll be raiding those boxes looking for more funny!

Hey thanks for the kind words guys. And I know that my dialogue was hard to follow in a few places, still figuring out how to do that. It seems I can't move the boxes around after I move on to the next one, and so looks like I'll have to do some more homework on that.

And amazing how a pink highchair makes your lightbox go from mostly white pictures to pink all over, but they looked good on the camera display...

I got some more stuff coming soon, but I gotta say that I don't plan on updating nearly as often as most of the serial comics are updated. I just wanna have some fun, and it seems as though a lot of you guys are all getting burned out lately.

But here's a shorty for ya:

Yeah, it does seem like there's a fair bit of burnout going on here, which is a shame. Like you, I just wanna have fun and, though I understand you need to keep momentum going with a "serial" comic like mine, I'm certainly not going to blow a fuse trying to hit a deadline every week.

Maybe we need a sticky that just says:

I just saw my sons book, and thought if I were big bad UBB then seeing soft and cuddly Bumblebees would be worse than death. And if he were to wander into my sons room, the sight of seeing how often Slumblebee gets kisses from its 2 yr. old owner really would kill him.
As for Grimlock_13, we live about 3-4 hours away from each other, but when he came to town about a month ago we met up for lunch. G13 is a really cool guy, and I have nothing but good things to say about him, and would sooo buy him lunch! Shoot, he can crash at my house anytime!

Glad you got some laughs at work, as for momentum I enjoy the serials very much, and it doesn't take much to go back a page or two to re-read the last strip and refresh the memory of what's going on. but it is nice when they are updated regularly. I like the shorty's and oneshots for good hard laughs and ease of creation, just find something humorous, snap a pic and add a caption and your done.
I like the idea of the sticky, Shane sure needs one right about now as his Laments thread is about to implode from all the weight being tossed around in there. Give the guy a break already. He said he'd be back, it's not like he just bailed on everybody...you know?

What program are you using for this? If it's anything that has layers what I do is make each text area it's own layer, get all of them in the general place I want them then make sure they are all arranged properly. Then I just go back down to the picture layer, create a new layer and draw all the boxes all at once.

Deep Thoughts with Megatron, eh? (It seemed "quotely" so I googled it.) Should be very :lol but by unhappy chance the first association was the D.H. Lawrence story "The Rocking-Horse Winner", and that makes me :cry.

Something with the rocking horse and thinking of needing more money...I wonder if Jack Handey had that story in mind...

Photoshop 6, and it turns out there's a tool called, 'move tool(v)' that, interestingly enough, moves stuff...I'm an idiot! I've only figured out how to move one bit at a time, but its something. How do you make an all white background to put the text into? I've had PS6 for several years, just never used it since I had photodeluxe that I knew how to use for the basic redeye and cropping type stuff...whew lots of curve to learn here that's for sure.

Well You've got your image as the "background" layer and then the text should automatically be separate layers per quote. Just place the text where you want it first, then click on the background layer in the layer window and add a new transparent layer. Then you can just use the rectangle/rounded rectangle/oval tool to draw boxes behind your text.

Hey I just did that after I posted this last one, and used the second pic to try it on, and man that is sooo much better than the makeshift funky way I was trying to do it, Thanks Buddy!! My wife was saying she was having a hard time seeing the punctuation, and now this solves that problem too...Woot!

Next question, how do you make your white text bubble indicators/arrows...?

ShadowDragon
05-02-2008, 11:19 AM
Well I use a graphics tablet so I just select the brush tool and draw it freehand, it allows pressure sensitivity so I can make it sort of get thinner as it gets to their mouth by not pressing as hard. Without a tablet just use the line tool in the same layer as the text boxes you can set up a "bezier curve" line by changing the line tool, that will let you at least make it curved if you want.

Otispq

Thanks for comments guys. Please feel free to give me tips, ShadowDragon's text bubbles tip will improve these a ton, so any other ideas you guys have, let me know cuz when I say I don't know how to use photoshop, I'm really not kidding. But I sure am having fun, I should've taken the plunge long ago...

Edit: SD..ah a tablet huh, what's a good one to get, cuz I saw two at Best Buy the other day, one was like $60 and the other was at least twice as much, that would be something to look into getting with my newly acquired birthday money hehehe.

I got the intuos 3 from BB, the $199 version. The Bamboo & Bamboo fun should be okay for light work, you just lose tilt sensitivity and I believe it doesn't have quite as many levels of pressure sensitivity. Just make sure it's a waacom.

But you'll make Gary "Optimus Primal/AEC Prime" Chalk cry. :(

Prime + vox-helmet = a pretty fair bobblehead, by the look of things. Is that actually
resting on Leader Prime somehow?

Is this a good time to mention how I make speech bubbles?

Letter in GIMP on blank white background, save as BMP.
Open in Paint, draw borders to fit. Bucket-fill around in useless color (pink is good)

Open unlettered comic panel in Paint. Cut and paste balloons from other image.
Set useless color to background, pick "paste without background" (lower icon), drag balloons around until they're where I like 'em. Add leaders using Paint.

(I prefer opaque bubbles myself. I'm trying to go for a cheesy old comic style.)

Part of my problem is I feel like I'm letting folks down if I don't update on a regular basis. Yet I was starting to run into the dilemia of where to go with certain storylines and the more comics I read I would absorb those ideas. So taking a break to focus on another project has been good for clearing my head. :)

I'm not sure this is that funny, but I went and saw Speed Racer, and holy smokes, the visuals are mind blowing, especially since I saw in on an IMAX screen, so it was massive. The racing is unreal, so if you haven't seen it, you may not quite realize why Grimlock is so bummed out. More funnier stuff coming this week, woulds been sooner but my computer crashed Monday night while editing some other stuff cuz I rebooted while an ipod was connected, let's just say that's not a good thing to do...programs wouldn't load, error messages for everything, what a nightmare!

Hey, aren't Prime and Megatron brothers too?

It's Afrikaans. I used to live in Suid Afrika, but I gotta say, it's mostly gone from my tongue. Not that I was ever fluent. It's a typical type of phrase, the -voetsek- word is usually used stand alone, and the literal translation I used is the milder form...hehehe.

Pastel Megsy? he didn't know anything about the bomb, nor does he realize the revulsion that Prem Meg has for him.

Mama didn't raise no fool. I suspected Adams was no good. He probably hooked up with that two bit skank Arcee the second I turned my back. I upgraded my paint job to remind him exactly what he's going to be missing as I kicked him to the curb.

Thanks alot guys for the encouragement, especially to Otispq :D Really, I have recovered much from the mental ordeal that has been plaguing me for the past 6 or 8 months or so. First, getting robbed (for the first time) really made an impact to me as the sense of security is tarnished knowing your sanctum is breached by unknown visitors. That really peeved me off.

The came my wife who has some health issues which got me worried and stayed out of my job for weeks trying to make her feel better. But all that has been worth it and she is now traveling with her mom across Asia. Why not me? Gotta work ya know, pay the bills, buy more TFs..:D :D

MP Megs with the add-on kit is the biggest. But discounting the add-on kit (and the City Commander trailer)... If we're talking gun-to-robot size ratio, various Megatrons, CD Red Alert, and TFTM Ironhide's combined cannon win.

While I understand and appreciate your viewpoint, sounds like you might be taking this to heart a bit much. Afro Adams is just a fictional character and a harmless one at that. He doesn't represent anyone at the board. He doesn't represent Otispq's opinion toward women either. The majority of guys I've met here have been nothing but respectful, helpful and kind to me. That's why I'm not offended. In fact, I've perpetuated the joke because I find it amusing. Trust me, women see through a lout like that a mile away and quickly knock him down a few pegs. While its nice to have a gentleman come to our defense, most of us are not shrinking violets. :)

Uhhhhh........ Do you have fun making TFW2005 members characters in your comic?

Yes. Absolutely. And I've got several people waiting/wanting me to give them a proper sendup. I ask permission generally if I know that anything is going to be too personal or if they think the funny isn't funny to them. Nobody has yet to tell me -no- to including them or posting my strips as I originally created them. I fully intend to make my thread my own. I like feeding off of the comments people leave, and what happens in my daily life. Read my entire thread start to finish and you'll realize just how true that statement is. I enjoy this community and like to include them in my strips.

You not misinterpreting it, DA. I'm just insulted by Afro Adams, not Otispq. He's okay. Afro Adams, I'm just going to kill him in his sleep with Bionicle-Dremare, Grand Convoy, and the rest of my stuff.

The only times I've broke down is when some girls kept bothering me on my bus. Afro Adams has insulted these ways. Therefore he must be executed swiftly and quietly.

Thanks for your concern for the ladies. The world needs more good men. I hope you can be an influence on those around you, as most people wouldn't even say anything at all, and you have made yourself clear on the issues you hold dear. I also was taught to respect women, and I hope that my funnies aren't too out of line and portray me in a bad light. But it appears that I have, and even though a lot of conjecture has been infused into this, I truly don't condone misrespect on the ladies, or anyone for that matter. But seeing as these are toys, and in the funnies section, I feel that for the sake of the comedy, allowances can be made, and the real world suspended to some degree if the result is a good laugh. That being said, it is a contradiction on your part to want to hold women in such high esteem, and commit murder upon those that slight them.

I think that you have not read or understood all that has transpired... Afro Adams has not cheated in any way shape or form on (comic) DA. It was hinted at that Arcee tried to get Adam. And (comic) DA made sure that it wouldn't happen, however, Adam is the innocent party in all of this. I enjoyed that (real) DA made a strip of her own that shows her characters wanting to make sure that she was treated appropriately etc. etc.

I was going to do a strip kinda like this: Adam, DA and Arcee. Adam and Arcee telling DA that although Arcee had hit on Adam, he had rejected her flatly. Unfortunately, Jazz saw the first part, only, and because he wants DA for himself, went and told DA, hoping that he could snag her on the rebound.

DA, succombing to Femmebot jealousy, went out and beat the crap out of a totally unsuspecting Arcee, but she did deserve it. So Adam and Arcee are telling this to DA, cuz Adam has been inapropriately labeled a jerk and womanizer, when all he wants is to be DA's boyfriend. (comic) DA, realizing that she got caught up in the subterfuge on Jazz's part, reconciles with Adam, and catches up with Jazz...who ends up walking away in his Final Battle mold.

But that is like two weeks worth of opdating, and too long for me to want to do. (Plus I don't have a Final Battle Jazz mold!)

Crazy as it may seem, if you go back and read all the postings, it is never mentioned that Adam cheeted, cuz he didn't. He may have a reputation, but that is what Jazz used to create the controversy with in the first place.

Bad 'bot Jazz, Bad 'bot! :stick:

I know, but my sense of imagination and reality mix together sometimes, causing enormous amounts of bad happening. I'm sorry, DA. I know Afro Adams is fictional, but my imagination tells me a different story.

Ok, that's what the funnies are for. These are just toys, but we create a certain amount of reality for them with these strips. We want to have our hobby be more than just plastic on the shelf, that's why we create funnies and fanart and fanfic. But do try and remember that in the end, they are just toys. And the characters are all fictional. My comic portrayal of DA is just that, comical. I don't know the real woman. Never met her in the real world, so my portrayal of her is really my own creation, with her name tacked on. She laughed. It was funny enough to get some extra mileage, cool. If she comes out my way, I'd love to meet and get some lunch. Same for you Dremare. Why? cuz we all share a hobby, and I like talking to people who share common interests, and it makes this website more real the more people you know on it in the real world.

So. Unless someone has something that just has to be said openly, please PM me with any additional desires/portrayals of how you think innocent Afro Adam should be further maligned.

And back to the funnies!!

But more importantly, when do I show up?

Patience is a virtue my friend, as there is already a queue formed up.

I hope that I'm not interpreting the question incorrectly. Yet for anyone out there who may doubt Otispq's intentions, I for one am not offended by his depiction of me in his comics whatsoever. I know that its meant strictly in good-natured humor. Honestly I'm quite flattered someone finds me that amusing. :lol

Now that I've finished reading all your strips, I find you all that much, and more! I picked up a Target exclusive allspark power BB on saturday, and I'm thinking that it will be the permanent DA Bumblebee in OOO-land. Unless you object...

Otis has my permission to make fun of my opinions in his strip anytime. :lol

Anytime? Try all the time!!

Hmm... I wonder who I would be portrayed as? Probably Ani Blitzwing. (Jess is the crazy face! XD)

Since I don't have Blitz yet, your shining moment will have to wait. But that is one funny that should, nay must be made!

I think that you have not read or understood all that has transpired... Afro Adams has not cheated in any way shape or form on (comic) DA. It was hinted at that Arcee tried to get Adam. And (comic) DA made sure that it wouldn't happen, however, Adam is the innocent party in all of this. I enjoyed that (real) DA made a strip of her own that shows her characters wanting to make sure that she was treated appropriately etc. etc.

This is true. It was never proven that Adams cheated. See, there's a good example about the effects of rumors. :lol

Ok, more with the stuff we're here for. By the way, who put the canuckistan tag on the thread? Is that supposed to mean The OOO is a Redneck Canadian transplant from the Middle East?

Hmmm... Off-Road Ironhide maybe? Or maybe not, I always saw that one as Beachcomber... Yes, Beachcomber the hippie, now with a BFG. Stupid enough to be likely in the Bayverse.
