Awesome. A somewhat lacking jet mode, but the Tank and Robot forms make up for it. Just an awesome figure, and possibly the new #1 on my list, even surpassing Leader Megatron:

http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a355/BenjaminDolle/Blitzwing/DSCF0003.jpg
Jet mode is cool, but has some issues. The turret piece tabs into the feet to lock it in place, but doing so leaves a gap in the back of the jet:
http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a355/BenjaminDolle/Blitzwing/DSCF0009.jpg
Untabbing it from the feet allows you to place it in such a way that there's no gapping, but since it's not tabbed in.... you get the idea:
http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a355/BenjaminDolle/Blitzwing/DSCF0010.jpg
One thing I do like is that the cannons rotate to keep the triggers on top of the tank mode, but spin so the triggers are not set off by tabbing them into the feet in jet mode. I'll show this in the video review.
Tank mode is super awesome. I can't say enough good things about it. I love love LOVE it. It's about the size of a softball or potato, and offers up everything you could possibly want in terms of chibi annihilation:

It actually kind of looks like someone dropped a safe on Johnny Five. :lol
http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a355/BenjaminDolle/Blitzwing/DSCF0017.jpg
Can you tell I love it? It's just so freaking cool, in a way that you'll only know when you have him in your hands. Also, the way his arms/hands fold up in alt mode, he's totally grabbing his own ass:
http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a355/BenjaminDolle/Blitzwing/DSCF0018.jpg
http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a355/BenjaminDolle/Blitzwing/DSCF0019.jpg
It's like Animated goatse, but not NEARLY as disturbing. :lol
Robot mode is decently sized, a little shorter than Starscream, a bit taller than Voyager Prime:
http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a355/BenjaminDolle/Blitzwing/DSCF0007.jpg
http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a355/BenjaminDolle/Blitzwing/DSCF0008.jpg
Sadly though, much taller than Lugnut:

Unless you do some perspective work:

Cool, and thanks for the review. He appears to be show accurate in size compared to Starscream in bot-mode, wich is a good thing, as I plan to have them standing next to each other when I get them and display them.

Can I join the "This is awesome" boat? I had to swap the legs after half an hour of fighting with it (nothing major) and now it's pure love.
Jet mode is definitely weakest, tank and bot are both pretty strong. Overall a great figure, definitely fighting with Prowl for #1.
Blitzwing may have even (somehow) convinced me to put Lugnut on my list...

Standing upright in bot mode, the outside-facing portion of the treads were on the inner portion of his legs. You have them on the outside. Doing that quick swap fixed all my problems getting things lined up, so I'm assuming yours is correct, with the outer part facing outward.
So... What's everyone's favorite face to use? I'm digging the Austrian one more than the other two, but they're all pretty cool.

Wow, you set that scene up again?
It looks almost exactly like the last version only with Blitzwing.
And as for faces go I'm torn between the crazy face and calm face.
The crazy face beats out calm face personality-wise(only by a little), but the calm face has a monocle. I'm not sure if I'm going to be able to resist a transformer with a monocle.
The angry face just has never interested me.

Hey Peaugh, is his head on a ball joint?
I'm not Peaugh, but I can answer the question. The answer is no. I removed his helmet and the whole head assembly is on an axis that allows for it to rotate. The piece that's connected to allows for some looking up, but it looks stupid after about 20-30 degrees

Does he? Dammit, guess I'm doing that a third time. You know how crazy it is to get Starscream to balance like that?
I am so tempted to join the prerelease crack club. The more and more I see of the Animated figures the more and more I want them. Alas I have absolutely zero spending money for anything, so I will have to wait until wide release. Having been hesitant (as most were) back when we saw that first promo image for Animated, I am rather surprised that the Animated line is my single most wanted line ever, and that I so am going to be a (mold) completionist.
So jealous of you Peaugh, so very jealous.

Yeah, the turret just kind of flops around. You can KIND of support it on the top of the tank treads, but it looks HORRIBLE from the side with all kinds of empty space. I double checked the instructions and checked out every pic of the packaged version from Botcon last night, the tabbed-to-feet/gap-in-fuselage is the correct transformation, and oddly, despite my inital problem with it, just knowing that's the way it's supposed to be has made it less irksome in my mind :)

You have to flip the feet out, there's a peg hole in the bottom. Flip the feet out, spin the turrets so the triggers are facing up, and peg the turret into the feet.

He has no neck, so I'd say no. Mine's in the middle of doing the YMCA, so I can't provide photographs, but I can say that the only way to do that is to actually move the entire head assembly up until he's looking forward/up. Doesn't work too well at all.

In my opinion, Animated Blitzwing is a pass due to lack of weapon usage in bot mode unless he's on sale or I don't have any other TF to buy. Although, on the other hand, he is one of my favorite characters from the show.

Making a Transformers toy incorporate parts for two different alternate mode is not an easy feat for designers. But, because fans love it (read: write in and bitch constantly), a couple of Triple Changers are sent out into the market every so often.
Case in point- Blitzwing, formerly just another G1 background character, has been given another chance to strut his stuff!
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v631/Paladin4221/BlitzwingJet.jpg
Primary Vehicle Mode is probably the Jet form. It looks OK to me but I can understand why some people aren't fond of it; the tank-treads doubling as landing gear isn't really a standard military design. Aside from the visual problems, the Jet form doesn't really lock together all that well.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v631/Paladin4221/BlitzwingTank.jpg
Tank form is definitely the superior Vehicle. Everything locks into place right where it needs to be and ends up looking great.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v631/Paladin4221/BlitzwingRobot.jpg
Now, in Robot Mode, Blitzwing's second most noticeable feature is put to use- his multiple identities, represented by a rotating facial gimmick a la Man-E-Faces.
I'm going to assume that most of you know what Bltizwing's faces look like, but just as a point of reference he's one part Col. Klink, one part Gov. Arnold, and one part Kremzeek. Nice characterization for this SOB.
Articulation is great, but could stand some improvement. I kind of wish he had a waist or that the wrists could have some additional movement.
And it is worth mentioning that the missile launchers CANNOT be positioned to launch from over his shoulders like the TV character.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v631/Paladin4221/BlitzwingGroup.jpg
HOOOOOOOOGAAAAAAAAANNNNN!!!!!!!!!
Aside from his articulation issues and the tank-tread Jet, Blitzwing's a fun Voyager toy and a welcome addition to my Animated shelves.

If that were the case, I wouldn't have modded mine.

Oh man.. this figure is pure win.. easily my most anticipated figure of animated line. I want to get two so I can keep one MISB for all eternity. bwahahaha. Seriously aside from the jet mode (which is a shame that there's some flaws with the toy however small) there's very little not to like about it. Great reviews and photos.
Onesock, can you put up a walkthrough to mod his turrets so they can shoot forward in bot mode? I'd like to give it a try if it's not too difficult.

Finally, the last of the first batch of reviews by CybPh's ALeX:
You can view it in our Messageboards (http://cybertronphils.proboards18.com/index.cgi?action=display&board=toyreview&thread=5179&page=1) and Multiply Site (http://cybph.multiply.com/reviews/item/89).
Transformers Animated: Voyager Blitzwing Review
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v354/firstpredacon/Reviews/th_100_5009.jpg (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v354/firstpredacon/Reviews/100_5009.jpg)
Blitzwing marks the return of the classic G1 triple-changers in the series. This time he appears in voyager form with more gimmicks and more persona's to boot.
Alt Mode:
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v354/firstpredacon/Reviews/th_100_5005.jpg (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v354/firstpredacon/Reviews/100_5005.jpg)
His default form in package is a jet. No gimmicks here, no landing gear even on the nosecone, other than the thrusters being able to fire 2 orange projectiles. The tank treads are clearly visible but its what also keeps him off the ground.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v354/firstpredacon/Reviews/th_100_5003.jpg (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v354/firstpredacon/Reviews/100_5003.jpg)
Going into tank mode simply involves splitting the panels the hold the wings open, tucking in the nose cone, rejoining the wing halves and folding the thrusters to form the turret. It's a bit compact though quite hefty but its nice that the turret has 360* movement. I just wish that the wing tips snapped on together since there is a gap between what appears to be a cockpit.
Bot Mode:
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v354/firstpredacon/Reviews/th_100_5006.jpg (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v354/firstpredacon/Reviews/100_5006.jpg)http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v354/firstpredacon/Reviews/th_100_5007.jpg (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v354/firstpredacon/Reviews/100_5007.jpg)http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v354/firstpredacon/Reviews/th_100_5008.jpg (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v354/firstpredacon/Reviews/100_5008.jpg)
From tank mode, its just a matter of unfolding the tank treads and opening up the panels built onto it to reveal Blitzwing's feet. His arms are of course, tucked beneath the wings. Simple reveal the head and peg the turret onto his back and we're done.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v354/firstpredacon/Reviews/th_100_5010.jpg (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v354/firstpredacon/Reviews/100_5010.jpg)http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v354/firstpredacon/Reviews/th_100_5011.jpg (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v354/firstpredacon/Reviews/100_5011.jpg)
His default face is his lovable blue monocled one though the neat gimmick is that you can rotate the faces around to switch personalities. Each one is nicely done and does capture the "character" on the show. My only beef with it is that the helmet is a bit soft and does seem prone to warping (esp when you hold it to move the head).
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v354/firstpredacon/Reviews/th_100_5012.jpg (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v354/firstpredacon/Reviews/100_5012.jpg)http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v354/firstpredacon/Reviews/th_100_5013.jpg (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v354/firstpredacon/Reviews/100_5013.jpg)
Poseability? wel he's got around 16 POA's though no waist movement. His arms are severely hampered by the wing kibble as well. He's pretty stable though thanks to th big solid feet. I snapped an arm out of place while posing him as well but its fine since it simply pegged back into place around the shoulder-bicep area.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v354/firstpredacon/Reviews/th_100_5015.jpg (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v354/firstpredacon/Reviews/100_5015.jpg)http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v354/firstpredacon/Reviews/th_100_5017.jpg (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v354/firstpredacon/Reviews/100_5017.jpg)
Comparing him (and the other voyagers from previous lines) with dlx Soundwave though, he is frikkin huge (even dwarfing Voyager Lugnut) as seen on the pic with him squatting.
Overall a great toy and a welcome return for a classic character. Simple transformation, the gimmicks make sense (no stinkin auto-morph here folks) and he's a huge chunk o plastic. Grab him when you can.
Blitzwing gets a 5/5

A few things:
Blitzwing's robot mode turret is mistransformed. The cannons should fold up better so they end up higher up. (See Peaugh's review).
As well, I think that the cockpit folds up more in jet mode - right now, it's slanted downwards.
Overall though, a good review.

I've always thought that both vehicle modes of G1 Blitzwing had some unfortunate factors to them. Animated Blitzwing looks great, and all they had to do was toss out a real-looking tank in favor of a still-cool cartoony tank, and leave the tank treads exposed on the bottom of the plane which doesn't look as absurd as it sounds.
And why not, even Classics Astrotrain had to abandon perfect realism in the vehicle modes, what with the train kibble over the shuttle wings and the large boxy rear of the train itself.

This guy rocks.
I can't remember having so much fun with a toy. Blitzwing is still fun to transform and play. I usually forget about toys after a little, and they stay on the shelf, but, like the rest of the line, Blitzwing is just amazingly fun.
I will do a full gallery when I have time, I HIGHLY recommend him, If I could keep only one of my TFA toys, it would be tough, but BW would be in the #1 slot
Few pics:
He can slightly lean his rockets forward, but it really isn't great.

Could you also show the front of him as well with the cannon change?
Could the cannons still return to their "rest position" once apply the adhesive?

I got my Blitzwing from Heero (he ships fast! Well worth the cost) and I love this guy, lots of personality.
A couple of notes:
I saw it mentioned that there is a gap near the tail section, I think if you position the two hinged panels right, and bend that double joint so that the shorter part is in line with the panels, it looks better. It still stays pegged to the feet, and the gap is narrowed.
I have found you can easily position the turret in robot mode so the missile launchers shoot forward right at BW's hip level - just unpeg the pack and swing the launchers out a bit, then position them going just above where his hips start.
His hips are wide because he's supposed to be wearing jodhpurs, or riding pants, like the WWII German desert uniform. Goes with the whole desert headgear and accent deal. The tank mode also recalls a WWI tank design like in the third Indiana Jones movie. His "calm" face may have even been modeled after Erwin Rommel (commander of the German Afrika Korps) instead of Col. Klink. Rommel was known as a cool, calm strategist. I love the attention to detail!
He doesn't hold many weapons well, but I found a Gundam gun that not only fits his hand well, it looks vaguely german/retro, it has a folding stock and side handle to evoke a WWII look.
My first thoughts when I saw the launchers could come off was to try and mod the little square divots in the sides of the launchers so they could attach to the tabs on the underside of his forearms (the ones that join together in plane/tank modes). It doesn't really work well, though, the tabs are shallow, the arms aren't shaped right for it, and I don't want to break the tabs. His sidearm (which fits on the underside under the canopy in jet mode, and slides into a slot in tank mode) will have to do for hand weapons.
Is there anything that secures the wing halves in position on his arms in robot mode? They tuck in a bit in jet mode, but swing around in jet mode. No biggie, though, they look good at least.
Overall, I am very happy I got him when I did, this is going to be one of the real standouts in an amazing line.

They need to be unpegged to apply the stuff, so they can go right back up with it on. Not a problem there, they just need pegged in. The stuff is by no means permanent (one of the key selling points is reusability), so I just take it off for neatness in the other modes.

Do you have a pic of this? I see the joint you're referring to, and I've got it lined up with the panels and the turret pegged in, but it still leaves a HUGE gap between the turret assembly and the main fuselage of the plane. It DOES fill the rear section in much more nicely though, and holds the rear assembly much more firmly against the tabs. Definitely an improvement, guess we'll just have to live with the gap.

I just hopped onto the Blitzwing bandwagon today. He's one tall S.O.B. but he's so nicely designed, the scale problems take a distant last place.
Further proof that all of the Voyager Class figures (minus Megatron) are not only well designed and fantastic, but made out of concentrated win.
Molded, painted, riveted and screwed together win. Win people...WIN.
I looked over all of his clicky, slidey, shifty pieces and I think I've figured something out. (I could be wrong, feel free to correct me.)
When you transform him to tank mode, the entire wing section lifts up and the arm pads are pressed down into the forearms, but spring back up underneath the wings (which are hollow underneath, not solid like they appear) and this helps to lock everything in place. (you have to push the wing tips down to form the cockpit for the tank, by doing so, you push the wings askew. The pads prevent that from happening.)
When you transform him into jet mode, push down on the wings (you'll see what I mean) and the pads remain unaffected, but the whole alt mode remains tight and intact.
It's a lot of fidgeting, but it all goes together and has a purpose.

I'm really starting to like Blitzwing less.
There's too many problems with him:
-Short cannons.
-Tracks in jet mode.
-Weird upper legs.
-Flat forearms with tiny hands.
It's just that the more and more I see him, the more problems become apparant.
This is the first figure I've bought ahead of time.I factored in gas prices, hunting time and it seemed worth it. Blitz has always been my fav G1 fig, and Man-e-Faces was my fav MOTU fig, so you get both in one, plus the multiple personality was a new angle for a character (to my knowledge) and I think that's pretty cool in a twisted Zartany schitzo way... anyway- I got frustrated because the wings fell off during transformation, but I'm sure they will go back on easy enough. That's why I originally looked at this thread, mine didn't come with instructions.
I would love to see this in a bigger toy. He's by far my fav animated fig, and I actually hated the concept of an "animated" transformers (you know what I mean), but the toys have won me over, which has made me go back and watch the shows again.
Overall, for me- this is a far better line/show than A,C, or E.
Grade for the toyline-C+
Grade for the show- B+
Grade for Blitzwing- A-

I just watched a video review of this toy. I'm sure it's been said a million times, but what kind of jet has tank treads? I've seen him on the cartoon and he has no tank treads when he's flying around. I just don't get how Hasbro could've designed this and it be final decision to produce this. That and the fact that he seemed really loose and not "together", for a lack of better word right now, in his jet mode.

Hey when does this come out? I hope its soon! Also, is it easy to remove the wings? It looks like they are made to be able to detach, with those semi-ratcheting joints that can pop out if you want them too. Just wondering, because it will make things easier for me, with what I want to do with it.

Man this toy could suck and i would still love the fact that it is Blitzwing!
In my honest opinion, you got that very wish !

Yes, yes he does. His entire side is tank treads in the cartoon.

I'd agree that his toy version seems awfully sloppy, but you can't argue that he isn't designed like the show.
Ok, you got me there. But they're much, much closer to the main hull of the jet and look flatter when in jet mode than the toy. And they don't look much like treads in those pics, just flat panels that have wheel-looking detail in the middle. No treads at all.

They do in other shots. Though they're not meant to be treads, just components that look a lot like treads. :lol I guess when looking at teh colour sheet under "night time colours" they didn't distinguish the two shades of grey.

Got my Bltizwing from the transformersclub.com yesterday. He's got a great bot and tank mode, but the jet just isn't that great. IT doesn't like to stay together, especially the nose. In jet mode, the nose just flops around and won't stay pointed outward. Does anyone else have this problem?

Yep. The nosecone and right arm of my Itzy Bitzy Blitzy are kinda loose.

They're not actually triggers, just pieces that compress in to allow the forearms to be compact enough to fit in place in his alt modes.

It's an artistic liberty... and an expected one at that. It's really no different or more noticable than how Megatron's "wings" disappear from his back, or how much smaller BB's feet are drawn, or how Prime's wheels disappear from his legs, or how Ratchet's arm gadgets aren't visible when not being used, or Starscream's missing back kibble, or the addition of Prowl's back jet booster things, or the enclosure added to Grimlock's dino mode chest, etc etc etc. All things considered, I'd say the toy version of Blitzwing compared to how he's animated is as dead-bang as any of the other figures.
Just sayin is all. Not arguing or anything. :)

What I don't understand is the purple pieces weren't there in the first place, there would be no need to "compress".

It's a cosmetic thing to give his arms some substance. Without them, the arms would look too flat.

I guess. I just wish they did something. Like fire his hands out like missiles. I like him a lot. Blitzwing was a very worthy purchase from HTS. Very detailed and surprisingly tall. I might be the minority here, but I like all 3 of his modes. They are all pretty well proportioned. Amazingly ALL his joints are decent and tight enough to hold any pose. Something I don't think any animated figure in my collection has been able to achieve. That also goes for all the pegs and tabs.
Minor gripes I have with the figure:
-Legs don't lock into anything when they are in tank/jet mode
-The head piece is made of soft plastic which is warped a tiny bit, making a gap in tank and jet mode
-The left wing pops off really easily
-Gap where the purple wings are supposed to touch for the tank hull in the front.

The legs do lock into the thrusters in jet mode, but I get what you mean.
Regarding the purple bit on his arms, if you look along the side it appears that pressing the purple bits in moves a small catch. I wonder if it's suppossed to lock the arms together in vehicle mode(s)?
Mine has a tiny scratch on the front of his "icy" face, probably from rubbing against the tab while in the box. I might have to put a dab of paint on him.

Like others, I received my Blitzwing from BBTS. The jet-mode would have been better if not for the tank mode underneath. Transforming him is quite easy, but I kept accidently popping off pieces of the figure(Quite annoying).
Overall I would give him a 3.5/5.

This has been mentioned many times: they "lock" his wings together in tank mode.

The chief reason I bought Blitzy was to complete the main cast of characters, and my initial expectations for the toy were somewhere between "middling" and "rock-bottom". In the end I can't truly say I was disappointed.
Both vehicle modes, aside from looking kind of silly, have LOUSY stability. Some parts, like the rear wings, pop off easily (I guess this helps you get the damn elastic bands off of them); other parts, like the peg holding the tank turret to the wings, are dangerously tight! The first time I tried to pull the tank turret away from the wings for robot mode, it pulled off one of the wing sections. Also, the toy seemed to be mistransformed in the package, because the cannon barrels were rotated the wrong way...I didn't notice this until I tried to form the tank turret and one of the barrels flew off. I don't think I've ever had so many pieces drop off of one figure...well, not since Alternators anyway.
I thought the robot mode would be his saving grace, but all things considered it's just okay. The hands are locked in an "about to grab something" pose, with no wrist rotation (also, he can bend his hands down, but not up), and I was amazed at how such a small thing really limits his ability to look cool. He does a decent crossed-arms pose (as I think Vange1us probably pointed out) but his hips have that strange bend in them and his leg poses tend to look rather unnatural.
One bit of trivia is that this toy was designed by Alex Kubalsky, who has consistently been my favorite Transformer designer. He made Classics Mirage, Concept Camaro Bumblebee, Wreckage, Animated Prowl, and a score of others...in short, his track record has been VERY good. Blitzy just seems to be a "miss" for him.

Got Blitzwing from HTS today. It's one of those rare times HTS managed to beat a retail appearance of a given toy.
Pros:
* Very innovative design for a triple-changer
* Extremely cute tank mode, kinda like something out of Metal Slug or Dominion Tank Police.
* Good-lookin' robot mode
* Three faces! After some consideration, I've determined that my favorite is "Angry Ah-nuld" face.
Cons:
* Legs/treads don't lock down securely, so both vehicle modes are a bit 'mushy'
* Jet mode is the most compromised mode, being gappy and mushy. Oddly, having giant tank treads as landing gear don't bother me much.
* Robot limbs are a little awkward, with bow-legs and arms which could use a wrist rotation, limit the amount of poses that don't look weird.
* It's a pain getting those little tan flaps where they need to go when transforming between tank and jet modes.
* I don't have the problem with wings or limbs popping off like some do, but the cannons come off way too easy for me. I'm considering finding a rotation and gluing them there.
Summary: Has some flaws over and above the average Animated toy, but it also tries to do more than average. Still well worth the price of admission in my book.

Cripes, Blitzwing is a bit of a mess. A great looking action figure and fun toy in robot mode, but an overall rotten transformer since his other two modes are dragged down thanks to a complete and utter lack of distinct locks for his legs. Something to connect his treads to the wings would have been perfect for tank mode. Something ... ANYTHING that extended or compressed the legs to create a better fit in jet mode... plus the springloaded forearm buttons, while a novel concept, shove up the back of his jet and make the already disjointed proportions even worse. Furthermore, he's in desperate need of some kind of locking pin, tab, or ratchet to keep the jet nosecone in place.
He smacks of a design that went to the mold cutters before he was finished, in my mind. Rather disappointing overall. He's one transformer I probably wont transform, and that always makes me sad.

Blitzwing is a triple changer so it suffers a bit from having bits and pieces from his other modes.
My least favorite mode is... jet mode. Luckily mine does not suffer the floppy nose cone. However I'm having the worst time figuring how the back part is supposed to stay. Even if the treads are really hard to get rid of in jet mode I kinda wished they were able to be positioned differently so it didn't look like a jet glued to a tank.
I adore tank mode, it's very show accurate and makes me think of the tank from Metal Slug or something.
Robot mode is a bit goofy in proportions, but DX Bumblebee suffered a similar fate. I still like it, but I wish the wings were placement was better. Crazy Face FTW.
I gotta re-do blue face's face and give red his trademark teeth.

I thought the tread stability in tank mode was pretty crap until I noticed the little tabs on the backs of his hips that plug into slots deep inside the treads. I had to press the hip and tread together pretty hard to get them to connect. (Is this in the instructions? I didn't look, hehe.) This doesn't fix the treads in place completely but it does a fine job of keeping them level with each other at the very least.
