It seems these are getting better with each release. This figure is good and tight, transforms well, poses well, joints fit and is just overall awesome. The Chinese Police deco is very well done and you can see on the box that there are 4 different versions of this figure available through these guys. The body parts are done in a subtle grey this time instead of ivory making the look of the robot mode very nice indeed. If these keep up in quality, who knows where it will go. I will have to get an Alt Prowl and do a side by side comparison very soon to see if there are a whole lot of differences in plastic quality and overall construction. But that will be for a future review......

Spencer.

Just bought one on eBay from HK. Hopefully it will get here safe and sound. I have a phobia for ordering overseas.

But alas, Beatdown will join my ALT ranks!

I got one of these off a fellow board member, not too bad at all for a KO, though for somereason I feel sick touching it, maybe lead paint, it does have an odd smell to it....
other than that its great, now to figure out who to make it.

If you bought it from funexport2007, in my personal experiance you shouldnt have any problems. I bought a couple of ko's from them before and they were fine.

Even when the first one got lost in the mail they resent with no fuss.

Btw Beatdown. Cool name. I just call mine Chip:thumbs2:

Up to you i s'pose. I didnt and mine got here safe and sound. If you want to make sure it arrives why not its only $3.

When i ordered KO White Hound from Funexport (Formerly Kenscollection i think) it got lost but they resent no hassle.

Dammit mine came and it was missing the rear right tail light. The red translucent part. Also the silver on the left front wheel is pretty much non-existent. Also lots of loose joints from pins not being fully pushed in.

Love the Chinese Police detailing though.

I took out the other red translucent tail light part. Doesn't look that bad actually. If I find a replacement for the missing one, I'll put them back on but as of now, I'm fine with the way it looks.

Now I just have to find a way to heat up some of the pins to tighten some joints.

If you have a sodering gun you can use it to heat up the pins that might help, And ask the resident Alt parts collector (Superquad7) he might have an extra tail light or depending on if I buy that 1/25 Acura Body kit which I might use the custom tail light lenses I'll send the originals off mine to you.

I got my Alt KO Prowl from A3U yesterday, and WOW! I gotta say, I'm impressed! I've had (And have) many KO figures, and some of the other KO Alternators, and this one is surprisingly well-made!

Granted, there are a few flaws -- on mine, one of the seats, both of the hands, and one of the doors are all floppy, but that's nothing a little 'bashing can't remedy. The paint was surprisingly high quality except on the face, which really needs a touchup before it'll be presentable. (It looks almost exactly like the ones in the photos..) ...And of course, there are sharp little sprue thorns everywhere that need to be trimmed off...but all in all, this is quite a nice KO! All the panels line up and it transforms easy. Bonus points for the unique Chinese Police Deco.

If the head were a little better painted, I wouldn't have any problems displaying this as if it were a real alt... especially compared to the Wheeljack and Grimlock KOs, which are sort of hit or miss, and even at their best aren't remotely passable as the real thing.

I'm definitely going to pick up the Blue one -- even if it's not perfect (with the lightbar ports still on the roof and all) It's wayy cheaper than the blue BT, and if the quality is anywhere near this one, I'm sure I won't be disappointed.

Mine came yesterday, I just need to find out the exact kind of paint they used on the blue one there was a scratch on the roof I tried to cover it with my own blue metalic paint but it's too dark... compaired to the car's paint. The right front wheel pin sticks out too far so it's slighty floppy but i can fix that.

I think he's gonna be night beat though... Just gotta find a good Nightbeat-ish head.

Well Since the real Type R, Acura uses the same color paint as it's Jap counter part the Honda Type R, Im thinking an Auto supply store might have the right color paint in one of those emergency touch up bottles...

The Grill on the other hand I might have to mod to get rid of the cookie medalion that's on it and maybe paint a Honda emblem on it and on the trunk.

Nightbeat will be a modified Japanese import :lolol

I haven't gotten ahold of my blue Prowl yet (Though he's incoming) so I've got my fingers crossed for an intact paintjob... but I admit filling in the roof holes would be an improvement.

Could there be a Tamiya spray paint in a similar blue? Like the metallic Mica Blue perhaps?

Also, I remember using a can of auto spray paint on a Bluestreak custom once upon a time; a small tamiya-sized can I got from Wal-mart in the Automotive section. The result was a gorgeous, PERFECT metallic blue that looked really similar to the Prowl, as I see it now and as my memory serves. It went on clean and strong and was pretty much the perfect metallic paint...

I tried the Tamiya Metalic Blue first, it's to greenish light blue compared to the Blue used on the K.O.

If not I may have to repaint the entire figure... but i lose the Type R stamps... which I want intact.

Ether way I stripped the paint off the entire roof section so right now im also debating added a Sun roof

Was the plastic not translucent after you removed the paint? IIRC, the roof piece is painted, translucent plastic. It's been a little while since I've stripped the paint from an Acura mold though . . .

Yea it's clear abit frosted now because of the alcohol pads i used I want the piece im going to cut out come up on an angle towards the back part of it so I have to cut it out carefully to use the cut piece so i can make use of the curve it has in it and just change the color with testors window tint.

Before you start hackin' away at it, try going back over the piece with alcohol and Q-tips (I'm not sure what "pads" you're using, but I hope whatever you were using isn't abrasive.). If there are no scuffs, you can probably remove the residue.

When I use alcohol, I'm generally conservative with it, especially on translucent pieces :)

Hmm.... I got my blue Prowl in today, and I noticed that it appears to be just blue paint on a black body shell.

I wonder if it might be possible to strip all the blue paint off by soaking those parts in alcohol or purple power.... and have a black KO Prowl? I mean, worst case scenario, you could always re-paint those parts with a high quality glossy blue tamiya or fusion or something...

I'm tempted to buy another one just to test this theory...

Yea it's a black shell (Mostly) except for the spoiler I think but that could also be casted in black as well And The plastic has a compound or chemical in it that reacts to spray paint making the paint darker then it should be it could also be something in the spray paint as well. I didn't realize it before untill I used the Exact color spray paint that's on K.O. Prowl on something else that made it look the original color the K.O. was painted in, Now I don't know if it's a cause for concern it could just be the dye from the K.O.'s Plastic mixing with the new paint but the blue is darker almost a close borderline purple I think... Im posting this here and in my W.I.P. thread for everyone to see.

Sounds like I may never get to fill those stupid light holes on the roof.

No you can if you use the plugs they gave with it and sand the bottom down then glue them in they sit flush with the roof as the K.O. parts are casted slightly bigger then the original parts. I've abandoned the Sun roof idea (for now) but i may revisit it later on.

I got mine today :)

There are 2 small scuffs to the paint on the hood and a few scuffs on the front and rear glass. There is a tiny scratch on the front glass as well. I do have to say that the roof "filler" pieces aren't as bas as I initially thought they would be. This bot is essentially the same as the other KO Prowls. If you've gotten one of the previous versions of the KO Prowl, I don't think you'd be surprised with anything with this one.

Many who have made this custom have used an Alt Side Swipe head for it. If you're just wanting to use the Prowl head you have on it already, you can always cut off the crest and glue it to the sides as well as adding a visor. Seems like someone did that lately . . . I can't remember . . . ah well . . .

Btw, those BT Skids/BTA Broadblast labels worked REALLY well for ya :) Also, where'd you get the carbon fiber hood label.?

Don't forget to post your work over in the Radicons area too :thumb

Thanks man, this is an old custom I did two years ago when reprolabels came out with the sticker sheet to make a Night Beat out of the BT Blue Prowl. Did not buy the stickers, I decided to use the Broadblast flame stickers instead. The carbon fiber stickers I got from ebay awhile back for $2.

Going to try that head mod or may use the spare Sideswipe head and some putty.

Cheers, Tech

Hah...yeah, sorry to say they're rather hit or miss here. It's always a luck of the draw whether you get a perfect figure or a stinker. Think of the usual QA ratio of good figures to bad figures for your standard Hasbro figure, and then invert those numbers. :lolol

I've got one of each recolor of the KO mold.

My KO Chinese Police version is absolutely perfect* -- even the art screened on the side is great. I had to repaint the eyes, but otherwise I couldn't ask for better. He could have almost passed for a special edition alt.

KO Blue Prowl came in with the metallic paint a little dinged in places, and kinda loose and floppy all over. One mirror was so loose it fell right off and required gluing right off that bat, and of course the face needed touching up. I'm seriously considering sanding down a lot of him and giving him a fresh coat of some new metallic blue paint, as the existing paint is kinda shoddy.

My KO BT Prowl was in perfect* shape right out of the box, with flawless paint, and the body panels matched up spectacularly. The clear plastic used on his legs was incredibly brittle, however, and his rear window hinges basically crumbled, requiring me to fashion new hinges from styrene.

So you see, sometimes you get a winner, sometimes you get a lemon. I'm afraid you got a lemon...but put in a little elbow grease and you can make it really presentable, without the guilt of destroying a real figure. ;)

*-When I say "perfect" I mean that it was structurally sound. Every KO requires a little TLC out of the box to make it work correctly. Be prepared to drill holes a little larger, realign pins, tighten screws, apply nail polish to ball joints to make them less loose, glue on pieces, and carve off those annoying plastic sprue thorns. I've repaired about two dozen KO figures...maybe I ought to write up a radicons tutorial on how to fix up your KO Alternators! :lol
