Gw:
Thanks. I just fixed the last episode of chapter 1 and uploaded the fragmentary (:() Chapter 2 to my archive site, in case you want to check that out, too.

Sadly, Hasbro did not put the Spychangers into the BTR toyline. Carblast is a kitbashed $2 dollar-store Spychanger with some sanded-down Lego-clone bricks from a set obtained at K-mart. Lego purists will probably turn up their noses, but hey, where else do you find olive-drab Lego bricks?

Naw, they're safe as long as Hacker's batteries don't run out...

Researchers do (of course) question whether grues can eat Cybertronians; if they were a viable food source, one would think the dark tunnel-riddled planet would be swarming with the beasties.

O:

ooOOOooOOOoo and then later, Primal's meddling caused them all to be reformatted into technorganic Borg grues.

This would assume that my Cybertron takes place after some variety of BM. "Primus had a good night's sleep. And then he had a good BM." Yes, it seems likely...but BMac? Hmm...I /have/ put plants in some of the comics...

I'm definitely going to have to come back to those techno-Borg-grues, though.

Autobus Prime

does he use the rockets for propulsion, or explosion, or both!?!

O:

Both. I decided they were "particle cannons/ion thrusters" for fiction purposes, and ended up giving most of the ability stuff short shrift in the profile. (480x360px doesn't give you much room to play Budiansky; perhaps I should have made two pages.) There is an obnoxiously verbose description and pictures of a few more of his toys and modes here:

http://www.tfw2005.com/radicons-customs/repaints-and-minor-mods-4/spychanger-brickmaster-autobot-carblast-164726/

I suppose these cannons produce a stream of charged particles that can be adjusted - a focused, energy-dense beam for weapon mode, a broader, more diffuse, but more massive beam for rocket mode. I suppose I could also have said they were jets or rocket engines, usable as flamethrowers...but ions seemed more technobabbly.

Shane: Left field is a nice place; there are lots of chips here. :)

O:
I can't exactly continue the strip without buying Hacker a ticket home from Mars, and alas, that's not in the budget. Also I have to obtain a cowboy hat and perhaps some flashy zebra prints for Dirt Boss, so I must go back to the ongoing storyline, it seems...at least for now.

(Making DB a pro wrestler was my wife's idea. It was too good not to use right away)

O:
Indeed. :)

Folks: Thanks for the compliments on effects...but I don't think they're that good yet. The way I see it, effects are well-done when they don't look like effects any more. The one I am kind of happy with is the big WHAM explosion, which was made using a custom cloud "brush" in red, then going over it again in orange, and then in yellow, using the airbrush tool. Then sparks were scattered around. The big WHAM was lettered in GIMP, then opened as a BMP in Paint, then overlaid on to a photo of a pile of steel parts, after bucket-filling the letters with the background color.

TC:Glad you like the props. Mostly, I have been using one 18x24 wall piece and one 24x36 floor piece, made from cardboard overlaid with silver/gold posterboard, inked; one door panel with a removable door that slides out to reveal a black "opening", and a bunch of cardboard towel cores and odd wood scraps painted gray with inked lines. It's all very cheap.

And now...WEDNESDAY WEDNESDAY WEDNESDAY!

Thanx! That's Orlando Bloom on the screen. One of my sisters was once a devoted follower of that religion. :) This is of course not quite current, although we'll not soon forget the horrors of surfing elves, but I tried the joke with a picture of Zac Efron and he devoured 3 souls before he could be deleted. Frightening.

I made people feel old, yay! :D But our little minicon loves his classic "Street", too. He wanted me to play "Baby Disco" for him four times in a row yesterday, and was copying all the crazy head-motions. Adorable.

SD:So you can read the Standard Galactic Alphabet? The Yorps will be pleased. Pretty much all my "Cybertronic" lettering is actually SGA, though you may notice some other alphabets here and there. The graph is as you guessed, but what it really is is "a cheap joke because I thought the panel looked boring".

SA:A notable lack! However, I made his playlist by grabbing a handful of tapes out of my Jumbled Boxes o' Tapes, and unfortunately, I don't have a single Go-Go's album. *scribbles notes for next thrift-store mission* As to the format, I like to standardize; it makes updates and salvage operations easy, and five panels seems to work well with gags, but sometimes with action you need more. I try to vary it a little, although it probably will always be more rigid than I'd like.

CH,O: We aim to please. I've seen some really cool HUD's here, and it made me think: "How do we make this Really Silly"? Glad it didn't fall flat. :)

I made it black & white and hand-colored it because I didn't have my home printer set up then, and printed it at work on the black & white machine.

The guy on the coffee machine is Killer Bot King Man from the World's Worst Fanfic Universe, who is saying his catchphrase "Your head would make a great coffee mug".

Incidentally, that joke about peanut-butter hamburgers wasn't fiction. The Wheel-Inn Drive In in Sedalia, Missouri served the famous "Guberburger", and I had one when I was passing through. They closed last year in the interests of highway widening and universal Bland McNation. An employee is reportedly opening a new Wheel-Inn, but at

Thanks for all the comments! I enjoy making the sets, although it might be said there's much less here than meets the eye. Most of what you see in that first panel is a $10 set of childrens' wooden blocks and gray spray paint. The shrubbery is lichen moss from the craft store. The cupola in right foreground is a spray can top.

Of course a magician cannot reveal all his secrets. :sly2:

O:
Jeeper Creeper is actually the only GoBot per se. Next to him and a bit back is a knockoff of GoBot Man-O-War. On the far left of the picture is McBeast "Panther", then Kup himself (wielding a knockoff of Prime's laser rifle), and in the back is a KO Robot Masters Victory Leo (making the V-for-victory sign, of course).

I basically used Prime's gun only because I had a few of them, and needed something with a 5mm peg, and couldn't seem to find anything more generic that would fit Kup's closed-ended pegholes. Not the best choice. I should have gone for something more generic.

I chose the figures to represent Kup's comrades-in-arms largely at random. There is one exception which will be apparent to the three or four sufferers who may have read this comic from early on. :D

SD:
They're quite small. In fact, none of my sets in this current chapter has been more than 2 feet by 4 feet.

There are actually three sets visible in the last photo. The skyline is all of 16" wide and 2 feet deep. Behind it is a far-background set. The foreground was built to a slightly larger 'scale', and is about 1 feet wide and 2 feet deep. These three were separately set up. I built the skyline, took a lot of photos from different angles for future use, and took it down, then built the foreground, got that shot, etc. Hacker was photographed separately on a plain backdrop and then the whole mess was GIMPed together with some 'airbrushing'.

This comic is getting harder to figure out what's going on..plenty of effort going into it, but the pics are so small that it's hard to tell one bot from another with all that dialogue, the boxes dominate the pic. That makes it hard to follow also, cuz it doesn't really follow along, soon my eyes start reading all over the place trying to figure out who's supposed to be speaking next. You should up the picture size to at least 640x480 and probably 800x600 so that it's easier to get into the scene.

I only say this cuz I like reading the strip, but it's getting pretty busy in there, and I want to be able to keep up, but right now I'm almost totally lost as to what the plot is or what's even going on.

Next time on the Blurry Robot Theater - Wheels turn and sparks fly
as Project F-Troop grinds into action. But not the way Lugnut's
doing up there on the crane! Fortunately. Don't miss it, robot fans!

a good strip and some great comments. Sounds like AP's Blurry Robot One-Shot's is a winner!

Edit: you updated right as I was writing this, so this post should be before yours in continuity...

That little droid is awesome! Especially when dancing to Flashdance. I may have to buy some lego so that I can build one of my own.

Also rated awesome by the Coolhand Board of Awesome Classification:
-WheelJack's flip chart.
-The fact that Hoist simply decides to be "Bloody Careful" about causing the apocolypse, but sees no real need to dampen his enthusiasm for the project.
-Wheeljack's accent.
Overall, the CBAC gives this strip a rating of: :D:thumb:bay

Oq: Guess I retconned it by not doing a 1-shot then. :D But what can I do? I've got a plot rumbling around in my head like that one last taco :hookday you shouldn't have scarfed down. :)

CH:
I can't claim too much credit for designing the droid, who is basically a compressed version of a robot from a Lego pod set. Lego has had some really neat "Lego-dust" robots lately.

Megabolt loves Flashdance. :thumb

This is a cool strip. I love the little line drawings, the reference to "the Maximal's private little idol" and the G2 Swarm references. And of course, the bit where they all throw caution to the wind at the end after the dire predictions is not only funny, it's probably in character too!

Awesome. :lol :lol

Folks:

Oo, two Baysplosions. :)

I'm glad it went over well. I did some actual research this time. I went back and watched THE MASTER BUILDERS and THE IMMOBILIZER for character research. :)

(Wheeljack has a nifty drawing board in TMB, complete with a drafting machine)

Picked up Classics 2 Octane at TrU the other day. Very cool. Now for a B.R.T. special report on that subject!

Alternative 1 has shoulder cannons - the handguns in their aeroplane position.
Alternatives 2 and 3 look like something out of the Brave series, I think.
The shoulder position in 3 was discovered by ye Captain Garlock of ye Allsparke.
Next time: more funnies.

That "Auto-Waldo" power loader thingy is just great! Where do you find the time for all this cool set design?

In this case, I found the time in 2005. :) The mech was sitting assembled and bagged in a Sterilite tub since then.

Wheeljack has used it before, only he had a cannon and missiles fitted instead of the winch, spotwelder, and manipulator arms (which I built after retrieval from storage.):

Robot Mode (http://www.tfw2005.com/boards/transformers-funnies/91307-autobus-primes-blurry-robot-theater-3.html#post532658)

Sand Speeder Mode (http://www.tfw2005.com/boards/transformers-funnies/91307-autobus-primes-blurry-robot-theater-4.html#post535409)

The writing and photo editing usually take longer than the sets do, oddly enough. These particular ones were mostly built from my existing box o' parts. The plasma reactor base and cosmotron chambers were ceiling fan
box inserts, painted with gray and black latex paint ($2/quart "mismixed" from the paint store), with various sprues and junkbox bits. The reactor chamber is a Diaper Genie refill case, topped by a painted plastic bowl, and the control-room window is a shield from an old printer.
