Need hep identifying movie

It was made in the 80s, and has Dudley Moore playing as an elf that wants to outdo Santa. He makes a flying car and tries to deliver gifts on his own but in the end Santa has to save him. Does anyone recall this movie? I cant think of the name and wanted to see if it was available on DVD.

Yup. That movie was the shit when I was eight. It also had this homeless kid, his rich, red-head girlfriend, and John Lithgow as an evil tycoon, right?

Yeah, quite a bit of overacting from Lithgow (but I guess that's his thing). I loved this movie when I saw it in the theatres when I was a kid, it was produced by the guys who did the original superman movies. I actually had the DVD in earlier today as my wife and I put the house together for a xmas party tomorrow.
