You know, I wish they could just rename the He-Man character something a LITTLE less ridiculous and have all the fans accept it. The series could still be called Masters of the Universe and it'd be fine IMO, but I know people would bitch if they called him anything else.
ANYWAY this is just a pitch so I don't think it's quite right to turn it down just based on how technically it's done, it's more to show a basic vibe than anything
In terms of that I don't think it's anything special, no, but nothing to piss all over

Filmmaker Kaare Andrews, who is also known as a comic book writer and artist (Incredible Hulk, Spider-Man), wants to take a crack at He-Man on the movie-front. Over on IESB.net "The Movie Reporter", Kaare sent in a pitch, in the form of a self-funded video presentation, to give everyone an idea of his vision for the property.
Check it out!
And click here to see what other fans have to say on our forums!
Important to note: This is not an official movie trailor, nor is it something in production. This is just a grassroots pitch from a prominent comic creator.
Update:
Kaare Andrews explained to He-Man.org the purpose of this clip:
"This is a kind of conceptual piece for a live action film. This is a new technology I call Go-Cons or 'animated conceptual paintings' and represents the tone and scope of the world, not the actual end product. It was pulled together in a little over a week with a small (but talented) team. Just imagine this as an epic live action feature with a budget and full team."

I don’t think that video is representative of what a file movie will look like but more of an animated story board. I was expecting it be ridiculous but I can see it working.

Calm down there, I don't give a crap about your opinion...you are entitled to it. I just think that you are missing the point a bit. It's not meant to be seen as a 100% final awesome motion picture. Someone mentioned that Draven's work looks much better...well no shit, of course it does. He spends years on that stuff and he puts polish on it because it's intended to be a final work at some point.
Time = quality.
Presentations such as this are only meant to get the idea across.
Rapid idea generation. It's fairly common in any kind of media to do these kind of quick things.
What you are doing is basically ripping on ILM's animatics for star wars and saying they look cheesy and blocky like a video game from the 90's.

Pretty neat. I have a big soft spot for the 80s movie myself. I loved it as a kid and then later learning that the plot was heavily lifted from Jack Kirby's NEW GODS it made it all the sweeter. This new one has ripples of NEW GODS in its trailer as well.
definitely has a 300 vibe to it and in light of its success can see studios biting the bait. looks more faithful than what TFTM07 turned out to be too. he fans could use a break.

Of course it's an opinion. That's what this board is for half the time--exchanging opinions, like your opinion that the franchise has nothing to offer but gay jokes.
Me, I think that the original live-action He-Man was plenty entertaining. It was a little ridiculous, but so was the original cartoon. That was part of the appeal. Any reboot seems likely to take the whole conceit in a darker, more serious direction, and that would ruin the appeal for me. I don't want a realistic He-Man. His name is He-Man and he fights a guy named Skeletor, for chrissakes. I want it to be a little silly.
The presentation was okay, though. Little rough around the edges, but better than say, that War Within "animated" bit. Even if I don't dig the vibe Kaare was trying to put out there, it certainly captured it well.

Well put. Not a big He-Man fan myself, but this little presentation is LOADS better than that WWI turd, no contest.
I think they should stick with the style of the new "Beowulf" and avoid direct live action. Animated stuff that looks nearly real would be perfect for something like this.

I get the vibe, and I liked it. I wish it wasn't so much like 300 -can the sky be a color other than sepia, please?
I was never too into the original cartoon, I liked the series where he was on the Starship Eternia but never watched it much. But I loved the franchise reboot Cartoon Network had a few years ago. Too bad it was the first show on CN where I could never keep up with when they aired it because they changed it so much. (That seems to be their operating model now.)
As for the name, I submit that Ram-man is actually more GHEY than He-man.

The only thing that comes to mind when anyone mentions he-man these days, is that old CKY video. The original cartoon is nothing these days except a big string of gay jokes, the cartoon network series had that "X-TREME!!!!" feel to it(kinda like gi joe extreme, equally lame, same with that stargate cartoon too), and didn't last very long.
If they could only change he-mans name to something the hell else, they could get past so much BS and actually do something with the rest of the franchise(skeletor was cool, and so were most of the good guys, except orco). Hell, get rid of he-man altogether and that's a huge improvement for masters of the universe overall.
And no, I don't have a problem with people being gay, or whatever, that's entirely up to them. But when a characters name(and I know the character was around first) is part of "don't make me he-bitch-man-slap you" from deuce bigelow...

300 is full of greased up muscle dudes in thier underpants, but the fact that it looks like a gay porn film with dismemberment instead of shagging didn't seem to put many people off and it certainly didn't stop it from being a hella manly film.
Not to mention that taking He-Man out of a MOTU film would totally defeat the point of doing it in the first place since he is the central figure in the franchise. MOTU without He-Man and unintentional homoeroticism would be like Transformers without Optimus Prime and transforming, its not like anyone with a sense of irony or sexual security is going to be bothered by it anyway.

I really don't like the stigma attached to the whole toy line or cartoon series. One would think our society would get beyond the rhetoric homophobic nonsense and leave that kind of thinking to oneself rather than announcing it to the world. This kind of opinion doesn't belong in the open arena. Think before you say or type anything.
As for the movie, I really have my doubts. I'd be suprised to see the final cut of the movie makes it to the big screen.

Doesn't really sound as though he is scared of "the gays," it was more of an observation.
Anyway, the point is, I wasn't allowed to watch He-Man as a child and it made me sad.
Also it's not half bad for a quick animated pitch. 300 wasn't all that great but the style would work well for Mr. Man and his masters of the universe. Although really I'd like to see a God of War film done 300 stylez.

Speaking of He-Man and gay jokes, here's an oldie but a goodie:
http://www.whoomp.com/articles/163/1/He-Man-does-4-non-blondes
I wasn't trying to use a rob schneider movie quote to prove anything, and besides it was eddie griffin who said it anyway. Point is, he-man is a big flaming... homo. I dunno how else to say it. I know where they were trying to go with it in the 80's, big body builder manly dude kicking ass, but...
So every big body builder manly dude is supposed to be gay or something? When the hell did that come about. The term He-Man came about to describe the most 'masculine' of men, the big, tough, burly guys with no feminine traits about them. Lumberjacks, football players, construction workers were 'men' who would fall into that stereotype *because* they were so manly. Hell, the original idea for the He-Man toyline was to release the same guy in different masculine roles like Barbarian, Soldier and Space hero. And every little boy back in the 80s wanted to become a big, strong, masculine man when they grew up. How in the hell is that 'gay'?
They could just drop the He Man moniker and just have him be called Prince Adam the whole time. Call it Masters of the Universe and just be done with it, sure the hardcore fans would bitch and moan but who cares about them anyway? Hardcore fans don't make movies like this a success attracting the movie going audience is the only thing that will.
Prince Adam without the transformation would work imo.
The whole point of the Prince Adam/He-Man thing is to take a scrawny, weak, underappriciated boy and turn him into a Super Hero. Because that's basically what He-Man is, Superman with a sword and no spandex. It instilled the fantasy that even the weak and helpless could become stronger, faster and more powerful if they just believed in peace and justice and all that goody goody crap. He-Man needs his secret identity just as much as Superman or Spiderman need theirs.
I am a huge fan of the he man and the masters of the universe concept, and I have yet to see the homo aspect...I just dont see that.
It stems from the fact that a shy, weak, 'girly' boy turns into a muscular, proud, strong, pretty man by embracing his sword (a phallic symbol) and releasing his power. People claim it was a metaphor for coming out of the closet and being honest about yourself or something. Personally, I think it's stretching it if people take it as anything other then a joke.
...though the fact that Adam wore pink spandex didn't help any.

This is a new format/continuity so let imagine the He-Man world but less lame so let's do this Ultimate style ok we'll have Prince Adam be a mature and elite guy. Intelligent, crafty, strong, fast, and nimble everything you could want in a crowned prince/future king but as capable as he is neiteher he nor his father have any chance of beating Skelletor/Main Villain until The Sorceress of Greyskull gives him the "essence of He-Man" the greatest hero their world has ever seen. The power he receives from Greyskull would be refered to as the "essence of He-Man" by The Sorceress this would serve as a nod to the fans because otherwise there would be very few refrences to the classic He-Man in this new continuity.
Prince Adam should keep his physic while operating at He-Man Levels, no need for a transformation. In keeping with that I don't see a need for a Cringer character or the screwup wizard guy. I could see a MOTU movie like that raking it in bigtime at the box office.
On another note. When I think about it He-Man doesn't need a secret identity in any continuity. Prince Adam and his Family are already marked for execution just for being royalty and all the main and minor Antagonists want them dead in just about every He-man continuity, so it's not like everyone knowing that he's He-Man would make any difference as far as the threat on their lives is concerned.
