"Exclusive: The X Files 2 Starts Shooting Dec. 10
Source: Diva October 29, 2007

After years of David Duchovny talking about the sequel, and almost 10 years after the first feature, 20th Century is finally ready to start production on The X Files 2 with the actor in place to reprise his role of Special Agent Fox Mulder. Gillian Anderson is also expected to be back on board to play Special Agent Dana Scully.

Shooting is scheduled to begin on December 10 in Vancouver under the direction of series creator Chris Carter. Carter and Frank Spotnitz wrote the script.

The studio is referring to the film in casting breakdowns as "Done One."

The popular series ran on Fox from 1993 to 2002. Rob Bowman directed the first feature, which hit theaters on June 19, 1998."

X-Files dissolved into a pile of suck and fail toward the end there, but I'll go see this.

wow, and my fiancee and I have been watching the whole series in order since this summer. we just watched the movie this weekend and began season 6. you can start to feel the series running out of steam though. I can't wait to tell her about this, though.

Awesome. We had planned on watching through the entire series again on DVD, so we should finish in time for the movie release :)

I really enjoyed the show but the movie wasn't all that great, imo. Hopefully this will be better. I just wish my wife had any interest in it, that way we could watch it the series on dvd.

Nice, I liked the first movie, but never really cared for the series. I like to consider Evolution an unofficial X-Files sequel.

I wonder if "Day One" is a shooting title like "Blue Harvest", or if this is gonna be one of those "This is the story of how we really met for the first time" type movies.

First Indy 4 and now this, its like somebody left the gate open at development hell. Hopefully it'll do well enougth for something dealing with 2012 to get made afterwards.

On the topic of the first X-Files film, I enjoyed it allot more when I rewatched it a couple of years ago then I did when it first came out since I didn't go into it starving for moar conspiracy. Its got Surprisingly good direction as well, I wonder who Rob Bowman pissed off in Hollywood to get stuck with Elektra.

I got dragged to see the first one by my then-girlfriend. It was even worse than the show. I'll be avoiding this like the plague. Now if they made a Millennium movie that actually followed on properly from the end of season 2 (unlike season 3. Well done, Chris Carter), I'd go see that.

I think that's partly the point. Enough time has passed for fans to get over (for the most part) their hatred of the last seasons.

The first movie was awesome. A bit disappointed that there will be no mythology in the sequel, but I'm looking forward to it nonetheless.

The X-files was a great show initially, but it really ran out of steam at the end.

After the movie I really expected the series to pick up steam, but it lost it completely. I liked how there were some lighthearted episodes, but there was just so many times I could watch the truth almost be uncovered only to have everything vanish.

Plus, Scully was abducted and impregnated by aliens yet still remained skeptical?

Also, I am from the Dallas area so I think it's funny how they showed tumbleweeds in the Dallas suburbs and they drove to El Paso in about 90 minutes. :thumb

On the one hand I'm kind of hoping it won't be made entirely of weak sauce. On the other hand, all I can think of right now is Movie Trailer Voice Guy saying "Mulder's back... and he's pissed!"

Hell, yes. Seems I remember that Carter said in an interview that they intentionally played down her looks in the first few seasons, by putting her in bad suits, pale makeup, and crappy hair-dos. She got progressively hotter as the show went on, and was pretty smoking from around 5 on.

And didn't Simon Pegg fap to her on Spaced?

Duchovny and Carter have been saying for years that they want the sequel to be a "stand-alone thriller" type of thing. On the one hand, that's good because general audiences need to see it and not be thrown into a story that picks up where the show left off (7ish years ago). They'll have no idea what's going on...On the other hand, that lame series finale left too much unanswered and it would be nice to know what Mulder & Scully have been up to since.

I'm excited, but there's so much potential for it to bomb at this point. Plus, they're not FBI agents anymore (presumably), so what do they do and how will they get themselves into an X-Files situation?

Guilty as charged.

I liked X-Files a lot, and stopped watching it maybe a season or two after the movie, so I was spared of its decent into shit. This movie really could go either way though, but I certainly hope it's good.

skeptic becomes believer, believer becomes skeptic. yeah that sums up XFiles. lets see if this movie resets teh believers and skeptics. that and has a moderately entertaining plot where SOMETHING is answered.

Which would be awesome. After years of them fumbling the mythology, I ended up preferring the MOTW episodes. If this movie is MOTD I'll be a happy person. (That's Monster Of The Decade.)

And no, women don't have expiry dates. Seen Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio lately? Daaang.

I wonder if "Day One" is a shooting title like "Blue Harvest", or if this is gonna be one of those "This is the story of how we really met for the first time" type movies. Not "Day One," but "Done One." Sounds like it might be shorthand for "We Haven't Come Up With A Sequel Title Yet."Which would be awesome. After years of them fumbling the mythology, I ended up preferring the MOTW episodes. If this movie is MOTD I'll be a happy person. (That's Monster Of The Decade.)

And no, women don't have expiry dates. Seen Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio lately? Daaang.I dunno. I wasn't a fan of the show past maybe season 3 or 4, to the point where the movie left me completely baffled despite seeing it with fans. But I don't see why the two approaches couldn't be combined in a feature length film in order to give the fans some closure.

I mean, to go from MOTW to MOTD seems like it would require BIG FX, and that would kinda defeat the point of the original show. And without it, it's just a TV movie. So what's the point?

Either way, in addition to MEM, Bo Derek remains stunning at 50.

I don't get why people are still complaing that the X-Files never explained anything. Granted it didn't resolve whether the colonisation actually happens, but it pretty much kept the viewer in the loop from the movie onwards to the point where characters were actually spelling it out in some cases.

I'll admit that the resolution to Mulder's sister was total bullshit thougth.

What did they finally end up saying? I saw three or four episodes with "resolutions" to it. She died at the end, didn't she?

Season 7, episode 11, "Closure":

CSM tested on her, she ran away, they came for her, and she was saved by spirits, which was somehow mixed in with her dying. Mulder went into a forest and saw her ghost in a vision, at which point some viewers got warm fuzzy hard-ons, but most swore blood oaths against Chris Carter.

NEW YORK -- The new "X-Files" movie will be packing more heat. Rapper Xzibit, Amanda Peet and Billy Connolly have signed on for director Chris Carter's next big-screen adaptation of the hit series for Fox.

Sources said Xzibit and Peet will play fellow FBI agents to David Duchovny's Mulder and Gillian Anderson's Scully in the supernatural thriller with a stand-alone story, not a sequel or continuation of the hit 1998 feature adaptation. Citing a policy of secrecy surrounding the plot line, Fox would not confirm any details regarding the three actors' roles.

Carter and Frank Spotnitz wrote the screenplay, and production is expected to begin this month in Vancouver. The film is set to hit theaters in July.

Xzibit recently was cast opposite Bruce Willis and Woody Harrelson in Oliver Stone's "Pinkville," but his schedule was freed up when that film was put on hold because of the writers strike. The recording artist, who has finished shooting "American Inquisition," is known for his role in "8 Mile" and as host and producer of MTV's "Pimp My Ride."

Peet also has signed to star opposite Mark Ruffalo and Ethan Hawke in Brian Goodman's drama "Real Men Cry" for Yari Film Group. The "Whole Nine Yards" star can now be seen in another alien-related film, the New Line drama "Martian Child."

Scottish comedian Connolly, who received a SAG nomination for his role in 1997's "Mrs. Brown," has appeared in "Lemony Snicket's A Series of Unfortunate Events" and "The Last Samurai."
