Goonies to live on as an animated series?
It seems that, after approximately 4,867 years of rumour, a live-action sequel to The Goonies is not going to happen. But the recent rumours that an animated sequel series may get the go ahead are apparently very much true. Corey Feldman (Mouth in the movie) recently told MTV that he'd been approached to return as an older version of his character for a cartoon series, in which the original Goonies would be all growns up and with adventuring kids of their own. And now Jonathan Ke Quan has told Empire exclusively that he and Jeff Cohen (Chunk) have been asked to lend their talents too.
"We were approached a few months ago by Warner about doing it and asked if we would be interested," said Ke Quan. "They even showed us character designs. It looks very cool".
Though Cohen now works as an entertainment lawyer, he could be persuaded to come back. "I spoke with Jeff," continues Quan. "All of us are very interested, if the story is right. I am sure whatever Steven (Spielberg) and Dick (Donner) think of will be good enough for us Goonies to come aboard".
If the Goonies are to return, this sounds like a pretty good way to do it. It's encouraging that Spielberg and Donner are involved and kudos to Warners for wanting to get the original team back together, rather than getting new actors to fill the voice roles. So, how do you feel about this news? Are you hyped to see the Goonies return?

I'm a big fan of the original film, but this can't be very good.

I'd love to see Studio Madhouse attached to this project, mostly just to see what they'd do with the Truffle Shuffle.

The first 2 season will probably be a little dark in tone.
Then in season 3 they will replace several cast members and change the writing stlye to be more "kid friendly"
Season 4 will see the show changed to "Sloth and the Goonies" disaster will follow.

The Goonies one of the few sequel deserving movies never to have been ruined by one. Don't know how I feel about an animated series...twenty years too late I think.

Do animated spin-offs of successful live-action movies ever work? Cases in point: Police Academy, Back to the Future, Bill and Ted, Stargate: Infinity

Weren't they going to do this with the ghostbusters too? Anywho, it's been a long time since I've seen that. Sounds like it has some potential.

I see a lot of potential in this. I just hope they don't use the trendy ultra-streamlined drawing style that's been way too common lately.

-Pit-Or BONES. Seems line BONES has been the new Madhouse lately.

In a couple of those cases, the cartoons were great even though the movies were crap. I'd say the Goonies cartoon stands a pretty decent chance.

Sounds like it has some potential. They did a "next generation" ghostbusters series several years ago. "Extreme Ghostbusters" I think. You might also be thinking of the "Ghostbusters Hellbent" animated movie that's supposed to be in the works right now.

If done right this could work.
The Real Ghostbusters did well as an animated series even managin to continue its run after the movie sequal.
Actually I think that's the only animated show based on a movie that did well, most others rarely survived to second season.

The guy at the very end is Josh Brolin, whose latest appearance was Doc Block in Planet Terror.
The blonde guy is a slim downed Chunk, who is an enteratinment lawyer in LA.
The old guy is god of action movies Richard Donner.

Who knows, Cartoons have been hit or miss lately. Depending on who makes it (WB, Cartoon Network, Nick) this show could be amazingly awesome, or so terrible you'd be willing to play the wrong notes on the skeleton organ and end your misery right there.
Just the fact that Warner Brothers owns the rights and is heading project, I am sad to say that it will most likely come out on the WB! which we all know nothing good has ever come out of that T.T poor poor Batman.

I'm not sure I really understand the value of bringing in the original actors to do voice work, especially since most of them aren't even actors anymore. Live action, it makes sense. But their voices will be unrecognizable, so why bother?

A-freekin-men.. The Real Ghost Busters was cool, and Starship Troopers FTW! One of the prettiest CGs outside of a theatrical movie, and some very cool dark stories.... Hell in some ways Roughnecks was better than the movie... More artillary (which I always wondered why in the movie they didn't use the walkers).
