I know it's coming out in North America sometime in late October but the Hong Kong region 3 edition is out and is pretty much the same thing in terms of the DVD quality and special features. Bought it early this week with pics to prove here. Took some time to take a few screenshots of the DVD for those who want to see how the video fares. I'll take screenshots of the menu screens but don't expect much. Compared to the DVD releases of the first two Spidey movie on DVD, this menu screen is pretty lifeless and mute.

The two disc set comes bundled with 2 button pins that doesn't really come in good use at all. But it was nice that they tried to give something extra. Also out on DVD early in Hong Kong is "Ocean's 13", WHV(HK)'s release comes bundled with 3 cup holders.

I always ecpect comic book movies to be way off in terms of story but I thought the film was good for the effects. Can you tell me what extras are on the bonus disk.

I had my problems with it but I still defended the hell out of it in all the discussion earlier in the year so I'm tired of all that. I'll just say - hey, cool, and I also would like to know about the extras

Well, for starters, I found an easter egg somewhere on disc 2. Something about gag music or some sort. I wasn't really paying attention because I lost my glasses at Canada's Wonderland last weekend and I basically can't see a damned thing. I remember having to highlight on Spidey's eyes in order to access the hidden featurette. There was also a featurette on the music and overall sound of the film, one on Sandman and one on the love triangle aspect of the movie. There was also a retrospective look on the relationship between Harry, Peter and MJ. Several featurettes on the special effects and etc. The special features disc was pretty packed from what I see here. Probably alot more packed than Spidey 1 & 2.

...lets see the movie was indeed anti climating...I mean I remember getting out and saying ."I think harry watched too much Eureka seven"-Ill admit liking that new goblin but because to me the thing was so back to the future/ eureka seven...Ill admit also parker being mean to mary jane, and the only venom scene-there should have been more-

this movie was weird at best and even my spiderman Fanboy couldnt enjoy it as much.... pretty much felt....hollow

figth scenes are awesome though. Ill never deny liking them.

haha! i was just watching the "Creating Venom" featurette and they showed how they used a huge pile of goo and try to re-create that with CG and make it look more menacing at the same time.

btw, there are 2 commentary tracks on the DVD. gonna pick up my new glasses today but too tired to check out more of the dvd. had no sleep. i would probably pick up the north american dvd but seeing how R1 is getting the shaft on the dvd release date, i settled with the hong kong dvd instead. besides, most of my non-chinese friends don't have region-free dvd player. therefore, they cannot borrow it since they can't play it.

For attention of course. It worked, thank you :D

I really want to hear the commentary on this and see what Raimi has to say about some of the dodgier elements, like Pete combing his hair down in the mirror bit. Oy. I was rather let down by such things, but I'm not one of the ones crying "LAWLLL HE WENT EMO COS EYE SHADOW AND HAIR" or anything

I have never pre-ordered from Amazon but was really impressed that I got my Spider-man Hi Def Trilogy on release day. I now get to see 1, 2, 2.1 and 3 in high definition. 3 was the worst of the 3 movies, but I enjoyed it in the theater. We'll see if it hold up at home.

I think this movie would have been great. Except they had THREE villains, and if you took away any or all of them, the plot would be minimally affected. That's never a good sign. It was too much about Emo-Peter and not about exterior conflict.

Too many special offers.

Future Shop had the Steelbook case.

Wal-mart had the One-disk version with an exclusive comic book.

HMV had the 2-disk version with a bonus third disk and a book of Spider-man comic covers.

I took the HMV one as it was the closest to the giftset feel of the first two movie's giftsets. Too bad this movie didn't have an official giftset. I hate the movie premium shit that's going on now. I have to shop around to see who's got what before I make a purchase. It really blows chunks.

I picked up the 2 Disc set from Best Buy. It came with some postcards and a red Spidey halloween mask for kids. I think I'll give the mask to my 4 year old nephew since he's a big Spidey nut.

All I know is Best Buy and Target. I went to BB first and the 2-disc had postcards and a mask (for $25) like Debesh said. Kinda meh on those so I went to Target and they have an extra disc bundled with the 2-disc for $2-3 less so I went with that.

I never got all the hate either, but whatever. Different strokes, blahblah. Just watched it with the gf who didn't see it in the theater. Other than being a little :peoples: at the Saturday Night Fever bit, she liked it. I'd rate it on par with the first; they're both good for different reasons, but neither as good as 2.

Most of the hateful stuff I personally saw was pretty damn silly. There was a lot of heat about the American flag shot for instance. There are tons of people that hate the movie just because of that 1 second of footage. You ask them what's wrong with the movie, and that's all they can say.

Now - I didn't think it was perfect by any means, and compared to the awesomeness of the 2nd one it disappointed me a bit, but I still defended the hell out of it against stupid shit like that back when it was in theaters.

That said - Posting on IMDB is a nightmare, I don't suggest it to any of you.

Predaking
10-31-2007, 12:36 AM
I'd rate SM3 as third, behind SM2 & SM1, but I still enjoy SM3 for at least incorporating Venom as a villain, no matter how silly its origin may be. Taking out Sandman would have made the storyline better but it's not as awful as many people said. I'd still buy it because I got the first two on DVD already.

ViperDragon
10-31-2007, 08:58 AM
The only real beef I had with SM3 was the Venom build up. There was only one fight scene with him and it was a tag team event. The arrival of the symboite was pretty blah. If they had done the cool scene of the space shuttle crash on the Brooklyn Bridge like in the animated series, all would have been redeemed.

Caved and bought all 3 on Blu-Ray. $65 for 3 discs of Blu-Ray greatness or $30 for one sub-par movie (I already have the first 2 on standard DVD, but rebuying them on Blu-Ray, I think I made a good choice).

First two movie are phenomenal, the last... not so much, but worth owning since I have the other 2.

I didn't realize when I ordered it that 2 has the original and extended version that I had not seen. That and the improved resolution made it worth the $65 to own all three on blu.

Watched 3 again last night since seeing it in the theater.

Looked amazing first of all on Blu-Ray. I still enjoyed it. I like the conflict between Peter and Harry finally getting really heated and the resolution. I like the Sandman's character and motivation, and the effects where sweet. And I like Peter and Brock's rivalry leading up to Brock becoming Venom, he really had reasons to hate Peter.

Yeah the human parts with Peter and the symbiote were a little goofy and weird. But I honestly believe had it been Bruce Campbell dancing around people would be sucking Raimi off. The Evil Dead series was totally goofy, that is his style and he finally let it loose in a Spider-Man movie. Apparently the symbiote makes you act like a freak.

I still stand by my opinion that it is not the strongest in the trilogy but is still a good addition and better than lots of crap out there.

I picked up the $15 no-frills, 1-disc version at Target last night, and seeing it for the first time, I quite enjoyed the movie.

Now I may not be a True Fan like a lot of people, so I don't see why all this hate has been generated towards the movie. Admittedly though, it felt as if there were too many points being crammed into the plot, making it a much bigger movie than the allotted run time allowed.

MegaPrime33
10-31-2007, 12:45 PM
I thought the movie was disappointing. What really bothered me was the 20 min dancefest from Peter. I can see the point of trying to show much the symbiote changed him, but there was no need for that.

I went with the basic $15.99 target version since it comes with commentaries and bloopers which is all I really watch on the bonus features anyway. Didn't really care about seeing the magic of making Venom or the Sandman...

I hate this movie. I now pretend it does not exist with Rocky V and X3. I loved 1 & 2 sooo much, and then this is how it ends. I do not know how the hell this movie got made, or why anyone agreed to be part of it, but wow, I regret buying it and seeing it in the theater. . I really wanted to like it, but I had to stop half way through and watch the rest the next day. Spider-man is in it for like 20 minutes maybe. The rest is Peter crying or being "bad" by dancing and eating cookies.

I noticed the CGI is really bad. I admit I am probably spoiled by Transformers, but watching the alley fight I felt like I was watching Spy Kids or Shark Boy and Lava girl. The building looked so fake, topped off with Harry's costume. If you have not seen it, rent it first, before buying it.
