I've noticed that there are at least a few Godzilla and kaiju fans here on this board, so I wanted to make this post so that my fellow monster-fanatics could sound-off!

Favorite flick: Godzilla: Final Wars/GMK

Favorite suit: Bio-Goji

Favorite Kaiju (G aside): Varan, SpaceGodzilla, and Battra Larvae

Preferred Atomic Breath Color: Blue (or white)

Feel free to add more to your lists, folks.

I recently picked up the Gojira DVD release. Glad I finally got to see the original version of the movie that started it all.

I love the cheesy movies from the late 60s and 70s, with Destroy all Monsters being my favorite. I know that they pretty much miss the original point of the character, but giant rubber suit monsters beating the crap out of eachother is comedy gold.

Favourite Flick: Godzilla X Mechagodzilla

Favourite Suit: Millenium Godzilla

Favourite Monster: Kiryu, Shinsei Baragon, Hesei Mechagodzilla, Showa Mechagodzilla.

Preffered Atomic Breath weapon colour: Blue/white

Coolest Godzilla comic monster: Cybersaur/us

Favorite flick: Godzilla 2000, and Final Wars.
I know some people consider Final Wars an abomination, but I'm a big enough Power Rangers fan that I even enjoy the human action, and don't mind the cameo style the monsters were done in.

Favorite suit: grey eyed Godzilla. Which film was that?

Favorite Kaiju (G aside): Gigan - classic and Final Wars versions both rock

Minilla, Godzooky, or Godzilla Jr.? - Minya - I'll always spell it that way - because I enjoyed the trippy style of Godzilla's Revenge. Godzooky sucks, and Godzilla Jr. never had enough character.

Anyone posting at a good kaiju board? All the ones I've checked out became inactive.

Godzilla v. Mechagodzilla 2 (1993) is probably my fave. Son of Godzilla is a guilty pleasure. If the damn human stuff didn't get in the way, I'd probably have grabbed every last movie.

Yeah, I'm a Godzilla fan (I like other kaiju flicks too). Mostly prefer the showa era stuff- favorite is probably 'Ghidrah the three headed monster'. Favorite suit.. hmm.. not sure which I like best, but I agree the '89 suit was pretty cool looking. Favorite monsters are showa era Godzilla (of course) Ghidorah, and probably Hedorah.

I also really like Final Wars, despite the hate it gets from alot of people. Oh, and the grey-eyed Godzilla suit is the one from Godzilla Mothra King Ghidorah:Giant Monsters All Out Attack, or GMK for short. As for a good kaiju board, I like the monsterzero.us forums, although they really aren't as active as here.

Godzilla is pretty cool, wish the Matthew Broderick version wouldve made it more justice or at least I wish they wouldve developed more on it in further movies

I always loved Godzilla: The Series. If the film hadn't sucked so much ass and the movie toys hadn't sat on shelves, then we would have got a sick new toy line based on the Animated Series from Trendmasters. However, this show and many other cartoons from 1998 and beyond got their asses kicked beyond imagination in ratings because of a little 1998 kiddie-crack phenomenon by Nintendo known as "Pokemon"(perhaps you've heard of it). This was another nail in the coffin for the Godzilla animated cartoon and a toyline that would have helped support it.

The film with Matthew Broderick on the other hand, I utterly hated with a passion. Asexual reproductive Zilla can kiss the fattest part of my ass. I know the filmmakers were trying something different, but unfortunately whenever I see this movie get poked fun at it's because of Zilla's asexuality or how the film damaged Matthew Broderick's (and those involved) acting career. At least they got rid of asexual Zilla in the animated Series and just gave us a good ol' male Godzilla, and a boatload of evil giant monster goodness for him to teach the meaning of pain.

I think the live action movie would have fared better if they had totally axed the Baby-Zilla thing and brought in another monster like they originally had planned. I vaugely remember it being a flying 3-headed canine like beast codenamed "Cerebus."

Here's some excellent pictures and info on the Animated Series and what would have been the cancelled toyline:

http://www.scifijapan.com/articles/2006/03/28/godzilla-the-series/

Another disappointment came with a proposed line of GODZILLA: THE SERIES toys. In early 1999 Trendmasters, the company which had previously released toys based on both the Toho series and the US film, announced that they would be releasing a line of G:TS toys that Fall. The first “Action Figure Assortment” would include Godzilla, Crustaceous Rex, the Yeti, Nick Tatopoulos, Randy Hernandez, Quetzacoatl, and N.I.G.E.L.. The 8” tall “Giant Monster Assortment” would feature Giant Godzilla (equipped with roaring sound effects, firing breath blast missile, and “passive light” translucent fins), and Cyber-Godzilla (roaring sound, firing missiles, translucent mouth and fins). Unfortunately, retailers were still smarting from the poor sales of the TriStar GODZILLA movie products so the animated series toys were cancelled before production began.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v63/netkid/G-Toys01a.jpg

But GODZILLA: THE SERIES made its mark in other ways. The show was dubbed into Spanish and also aired in several foreign countries. Going back to its roots, the series began showing in Japan on their DirectTV system on December 1, 1999. Sony retains control over how the series is dubbed and aired in foreign markets, and no editing of the episodes was allowed. There was also some merchandising from the show, including a pair of video games from Gameboy, and a set of kids’ meal toys from Carls Jr in 2000. In 1999, Columbia/TriStar Home Video released two volumes of GODZILLA: THE SERIES on VHS, “Trouble Hatches” (collecting the first two episodes of the show) and “Monster War”. August 2004 saw the release of the first DVD of episodes from the series—THE MONSTER WARS TRILOGY, and this month brings two more volumes. Much like the legendary Japanese kaiju that inspired it, the animated King of the Monsters keeps coming back in new and different ways to thrill and entertain us all.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v63/netkid/G-Toys02.jpg

And yes, if they had made toys from the animated series, I'd buy every single figure. I already own BOTH games for the Game Boy Color (which are simple but fun). Now all I can do is look for a set of those Carl's Jr. toys.

God Dammit how I wished they made that toyline!!! *shakes fist*

Netkid you post if full info and win. I love Godzilla. And if I dont pay attention to the entire stupid facts of the tristar Godzilla I kinda like him/her. I really wished the Cartoon series would have kept going on. It was alot better then most of the bull crap during the 90s.
Also does anyone have any links to some info/pics on the Godzilla movie line? The most I can find is some pics of the baby zillas.

yeah, i've loved them since i was a kid. i wish i'd have seen more of them than i have but i still love them. i'll be getting the new wii game next week, regardless of reviews or opinions, just because i love godzilla. i got the gojira dvd in the summer and i really was amazed at how much better the original japanese version was. i'm never much of one for a subbed movie but it's a whole lot better for the most part. the english version will always have a special place in my heart though. godzilla vs mothra was always a good one too, and final wars was a good movie too. i just wish the monster fights were longer in it.

I'm not the world's biggest Godzilla fan, but there's some interest. I watched a lot of the dubbed films when I was a kid, and I love the kaiju designs.

I'm definitely not into the Roland Emmerich version. It's not that it's different, it's just him I think, his movies are really tough to swallow.

I've been curious about the PS2 fighting game, is that any good?

Well, the american version had great special effects, but the monster was lame as hell. Secondly I kinda like the animated series at least zilla was facing a monster, but next time never get the animators from Extreme Ghostbusters to do it. Okay.

Man the wii is going to have three godzillas and three Mechagodzillas in one game man it would awesome to play as the Godzilla 1954, but they should put battra and hedorah in this that having that mess. Well good news is that battra will be playable on the ps2, but bad news is no smog monster, damn.
Funny it would be silly and cool to actually see a Godzilla Transformer. that would be a neat concept, but just an idea.

If you mean "Save the Earth", then yeah I have it and like it very much. The game is fun to play and very easy to learn. However, the higher difficulties puts you against enemies who move faster than you can and creates a real disadvantage to the point where I had to use cheat codes to win. You can unlock characters, levels (day & night times), mini-games, and stills from Final Wars by purchasing packs of them in a store with points you get by playing the game's story mode. Despite the higher difficulties, it's still an enjoyable game and I'd recommend it if your a Godzilla fan.

Yeah, Godzilla: Unleashed on PS2 is already out in the US, it's pretty much STE with new storyline and arenas. You get two new monsters, Battra and Obsidius (the latter being a Pipeworks creation), but they are clones of Mothra and Orga with a new roar and beam.

General consensus is that the PS2 version sucks. The Wii version looks much better, featuring these new monsters and much more :-
- Showa Mechagodzilla
- Godzilla 1954
- Varan (the Unbelievable)
- Biollante
- Titanosaurus
- King Ceaser

Monsters have been redesigned from the ground up, looking much better than in any game previously released, King Ghidorah is now a mix of his GMK and Hesei series designs, and Gigan has gona Final Wars style.

Wii Version also features 2 Pipeworks created monsters, Obsidius and Krystallak.
Both of which are unique (No clones on Wii). Also, the Gotengo, (Atragon for the old school guys) makes an appearence as an unplayable boss.

Head on over to www.godzillaunleashed.com and check out the Monster reveal and gameplay trailers. Each monster reveal card has its own little animation, showcasing the monster.

I'm tempted to mention something about bumping an old thread like this, but what's done is done and at least it spawned more discussion.

Personally I'm an enormous fan of all things kaiju. It's because of Godzilla that my interest in pursuing paleontology was ignited, and that led to my interest in TFs in the first place (Dinobots!). If it came down to one or the other, Godzilla easily wins out against TFs.

I also happen to be around and active in the Godzilla communities, collecting the toys from Bandai, and love the films. That new boxed set from Classic Media being my newest pride and joy.

I've heard of the cancelled animated series toys, but haven't seen them for whatever reason. Man, those could have been nice. I really wish that Trendmasters didn't die off the way it did (and you know a failure like the G'98 line played a part in that) and completely released Doom Island as well as those. Still, the few toys we get from Bandai Creation in the US aren't too bad, with some exceptions.

For some brief info on collecting Japanese kaiju toys like Godzilla, check out KingForm's thread:
http://www.tfw2005.com/boards/showthread.php?t=156670

...oh, and for anyone wondering, I'm generally found in places like Kaijuphile, TKT, and ClubTokyo under the name Giganzilla. Three guesses what my favorite non-Goji kaiju is!

Unfortunately, Battra is just a Mothra Clone, though the Larva looks good, if his moveset (Mothra) is a little dissapointing.

Regarding Hedorah, apparently, with the software and kit available, they wouldnt be able to make the smog monster look right, so they left him out all together.

The 90s Gamera flicks are incredible.
They are great as individual movies, but brilliant as a trilogy.

Unfortunately, they don't seem to be in stock anywhere anymore -even online.

I've been a big Godzilla fan for as long as I can remember.
The 1998 American Godzilla movie broke my heart.
It really is not a bad movie about a giant monster, but that creature has none of Godzilla's characteristics besides the roar.

And Hollywood, why does it make more sense to have sewer gas miraculously ignite as the creature roars rather than just having the thing breath fire? Seriously, why?

My favorite Godzilla film is Destroy All Monsters.
Favorite Suit is GMK Godzilla. (I would have liked to see pupils put in and the suit reused for less supernatural Godzillas).
Favorite Line:

Don't worry. With my piloting skill I can overcome any mechanical difficulties!

They are articulated. I'm just not sure where because many of the points of articulation are well hidden.

Kiryu possibly at the shoulders, legs, tail, middle of tail, waist, and the lower neck.

Final Wars Godzilla possibly at the legs, upper arms, lower arms before elbows, tail, middle of tail, mid torso, and the upper neck.

We'll just have to wait for more info or hopefully someone will find them to be absolutely sure of where and how much articulation they are packing.

Thanks anyways.

QuinJester

Any remake of Godzilla vs. King Kong would have to drastically redesign Godzilla to be like ... 1/7th of his original height. Either that or make King Kong 7 times bigger.

I recommend Up From the Depths (http://youtube.com/watch?v=tVZLAbu6qIw) as a humorous take on just one of the reasons why Godzilla vs. King Kong is silly.

That said, I'd like to see it, if only to see two giant monsters go apeshit (ha!) on each other. Godzilla is on a hiatus though, right now, so there wont be any more G movies for a while, sadly...

Awesome time for this thread to be revived!

I just won a MISB (still factory-wrapped) "Godzilla: Domination" for the GameBoyAdvance on eBay for only $15.00 shipped!

I've been trying to find this game for years! Woo-Hoo!!!!!

I spotted that at an EB Games recently.

I have a bit of interest for Godzilla, who could resist a giant fire-breathing mutated lizard? I have 3 of the old movies, and i sort of enjoyed the 1998 one.

I was always eager to see a rematch between Kong and Godzilla, but that is unlikely, but still alot of fan fictions out there about this battle. I think that we're watching some new monster movies is kinda coping with the hiatus status of Godzilla and its filling the void slowly but surely intil the G-man's return to the big screen. For now we got to look forward are some chessy CGI flicks on Sci-Fi and some okay monster films in theatres(I think but I'm not sure, maybe some but still I dont know yet).

Anyone know if they will ever remake Godzilla vs KingKong? I was watching King Kong this weekend and just thought that out of all the remakes and VS movies that have been put out there, this could be a good one.

I would probably never see it because I would die of a heart attack when the announcement came out.

A few years ago I would have said that it could never happen, but I never thought I would see Iron Man in the Hulk either.

Godzilla and Tfs ruled my childhood I've seen every movie and got to say that I hope when the hitaus is lifted that Toho can find a mesh of CGI and Rubber suits that works like Gamera: The Brave.

Oh and bring back Zilla from GMK that has to be the best zilla of them all he looks evil as hell and beefy !!

Well like a said before I dont have a favorite Godzilla movie, I just like them all from the great to the campy and I also love the monsters that teamed up with Godzilla from Anguirus to King Caesar and so forth. His rogue gallery I too like the designs of them from Hedorah to Kiryu and beyond even though some are outrageous then others, but still I like them all. Always have been and always will forvever.

In a good way I was inspire by these creatures to create some of my own and man some are cool, while others are well kinda extraordinary, but still I create them to be equals and try not to make them too godlike just even.
