alright,I know how to put them on but how do I get them on clear like you see mine it has the whitelthing around it.How can I put a clasic icon on with out it haveing the white suff?!?!

I believe it has to be created that way, there's no "option" on the boards that allows it to happen.

There. Save this one (DON'T CHANGE THE FILE TYPE), and upload it. It should work.

I changed the file type to .GIF and made the white transparent.

Right click the pic and save it to your desktop, then upload it off your desktop in the avatar section in your CP. You don't need to change anything about it, just save and upload. Forget about that bitmap nonsense. I tested it as my avatar, so I know it works.

Or, save it to wherever it is you put your multitude of avatars, and change it however you do it, JUST DON'T CHANGE THE FILE TYPE. If you do, it will go back to having a white background.

He has that bug with IE where stuff will only save in art or Bitmap format... I thought an update from microsoft was supposed to have fixed that bug, so try updating.

Oh, that explains it. I use Firefox, so I don't have that issue.:p

I just tried it with IE6, and it saved as a .gif just fine. I also keep everything updated, so yeah, he must need an update. Or Firefox.

He could just copy and paste the link to the pic into the edit avatar section in his CP, too. That should work.

I always wondered why people had white boxes... All icons on my site are GIFs so the transparency is already handled.

You can always right-click an image and select 'properties' and then get the exactpath to the original. Then paste that into your browser and then SAVE.

actually deleting cookies will fix it.

It usually happens to me when I have too much crap in my temp internet folder. I delete it out, and viola, I can save back in original formats.
